Robert Zazzali, an executive producer on several reality TV shows including TLC's Pawn Queens and History's Deep Sea Salvage, is suing his former partner, Jason Morgan, for allegedly stealing his compensation. Zazzali alleges that because he was a "team" player at Varuna Entertainment and because his "good friend" personally requested it, he acquiesced to Morgan's demands to forgo executive producer fees until the production company made money. But Zazzali believes that the company was making money, and that Morgan was embezzling it. A lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in California federal court. According to the complaint, Zazzali and Morgan worked

In 127 Hours, James Franco hacked away at his arm. During Francophrenia, you might just wish he did the same to his head.
This is a shame, because this 70-minute documentary covering the star's return to the soap General Hospital, where he started out in 2009, begins as an impressive Fellini-esque dissection of American society, celebrity, and the at-times thin membranes separating an actor's public persona from the roles he plays and his inner self.
The film, however, degenerates into a masturbatory mockumentary which reveals that the co-directors -- Ian Olds and Franco himself -- have little vision, piddling wit, and negligible respect for their prospective audiences. Imagine David Lynch shooting his own colonoscopy, and you're halfway there.
This enterprise, a highlight of the Tribeca Film Festival, is accumulated from 40 hours of footage of rehearsals, backstory, fan interaction, and the actual shooting of an episode where the actor James Franco plays a disturbed character named "Franco,...

I'm not sure what to make of the big surprise on General Hospital this week -- but then again, I haven't known what to make of Gh in a very long time (years, actually). Robin Scorpio is alive -- and looking very tanned and rested, I might add, even if she is being held hostage in something resembling a hospital room.
Seeing Robin in that bed at the end of Monday's episode was the first time Gh has really "wowed" me since that unforgettable moment in May 1980 when Edward Quartermaine sprang back to life after faking a heart attack and shocked his daughter Tracy (and millions of viewers, as well) after she had refused to give him his medication because he wouldn't change his will. Ah, sweet memories ...
The Robin reveal was all the more impressive because it hadn't been leaked. I didn't think it was possible to keep anything...

Watching General Hospital these last two weeks, as the energetic efforts of One Life to Live veterans Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati to save the show from almost certain doom begin to play out, it occurs to me that my time as a fan of this once-formidable serial has come full circle. I began watching Gh in 1978, shortly after fearless executive producer Gloria Monty had been brought on board to save the show from seemingly certain cancellation. In fact, as legend has it, Gh at the time had sunk so low in the ratings it was given only a few months to reverse its failing fortunes or be cancelled.
Thirty-five years later Gh is once again on life support or damn close to it -- and, once again, it may very well be terminated in a few months! ABC seems to have made clear that it wants out of the...

It’s that time of year to give thanks on ABC’s General Hospital — unless you’re name is Jason Morgan and you’re still reeling from what happened on your honeymoon. (Dang you, Franco!)
In this exclusive clip, the Quartermaines gets ready to cut to cut the turkey — until Steve Burton’s alter-ego realizes he can’t move on from his run-in with the mysterious artist and takes it out on the poor bird.
The episode airs Wednesday.

Gigantic, hyper-intelligent apes aren't James Franco's only simian co-stars.
The eclectic actor/writer/director/artist/etc, who was last seen in the uber-successful "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," has made his return to soap opera "General Hospital," reviving his serial killer/artist character Franco to wildly creepy effect. Standing over a dead body, he muses over the wedding of his desperate crush, hitman Jason Morgan, and plots his return to Port Charles to break up the nuptials.
It's chilling and also terribly written, which makes it all the more unsettling. See it for your own eyes by clicking over to NY Mag's Vulture blog.
As for his next, more serious project, Franco will be directing an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel, "Blood Meridian."...

Grey’s Anatomy fans, take heart: Ellen Pompeo — whom you know well and love as Seattle Grace’s Meredith Grey — has revealed that Season 8 of the ABC medical drama will not necessarily not be her last.
Talking to TV Guide Magazine, Pompeo opened up about the possibility of continuing with Grey’s beyond her contract’s expiration at the end of the upcoming season, saying, “I would love the opportunity to discuss it. It's a good thing he's on "General Hospital," because from the looks of it, James Franco is going to need a doctor.
The Oscar-nominee is reprising his art-as-real life experiment with another go-round on the soap opera, this time back for a long arc as serial killer/artist Robert "Franco" Frank. Part of his storyline will involve trying to break up the wedding of Jason Morgan, the hitman on whom he harbors a desperate crush.
The photo below, then, doesn't look like the feeling of butterflies is very mutual.
It'll be his first appearance on the soap since February.
Franco just starred in "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes," a veritable blockbuster that, though it was less than his most artistic piece, helps him recover from the double bomb of The Oscars and "Your Highness." He's currently splitting time between finishing "Sal," a biopic he's directing about actor Sal Mineo,...

Since he just got surprisingly good reviews for summer action flick Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, it seems like there’s really only one perfect career path for James Franco: returning to General Hospital. The Oscar-nominee will be headed back to Port Charles this fall, having guest starred for a two-month arc in 2009 as a serial killer. Really, how does he plan to top a role that amazing? We can just picture a sweaty Franco pacing back in forth in a boardroom, trying to explain how super-intelligent chimps make perfect sense on a soap opera.
E! Online has an exclusive pic of James Franco’s return to set, and if you guessed it would feature him drooling fake blood through his classic Franco grin, you are correct. James Franco, the jack of all trades Oscar-nominated actor, is in fact returning to 'General Hospital,' despite having said the contrary.
According to E! Online, Franco, who plays the murderous performance artist named Franco, will return just in time to wreak havoc before Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Samantha McCall's (Kelly Monaco) marriage.
In July, TV Guide Magazine first reported Franco would be returning to 'General Hospital.' A few days later, the actor told E! that news was false.

There will be blood when James Franco returns to "General Hospital" on September 20.
Despite Franco's earlier statements to the contrary, E! landed a photo of Franco on the set of the ABC daytime soap that proves that he will in fact be reprising the role of his appropriately named serial killer, Franco.
It looks like things don't end so well for Franco's soap alter ego, based on the smear of blood on the wall behind his head and the trickle coming out of his mouth in the photo. Or there's a chance he'll be bringing back the creepy by again playing a dead man in one of his character's art exhibits, considering that's how he was introduced to the show originally. The plot thickens!

Okay, someone really needs to keep Jason from getting behind the wheel of cars. Now that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) went and got himself into yet another auto accident on General Hospital, the women in his life (his mom, his ex, his fiancee — oy, there are so many!) are now dreaming of what life could have been, had his memory not been wiped clean in the first place.
This makes my head hurt. Clearly, I’m not alone: Check out Jason’s “injuries” in this action-packed promo:...

The mother of all soap-amnesia plots — the woeful tale of Jason on General Hospital — is about to take a curious turn. Long story short: Back in 1995, rich, wholesome preppy Jason Quartermaine (played by Steve Burton) was left mentally damaged and memory-free after a car accident and split from his family to become underworld hit man Jason Morgan. Now he's been seriously injured in yet another crash and will require life-or-death brain surgery. During the intense procedure (airing August 26 and 29), the women in Jason's life — fiancée Sam (Kelly Monaco), mom Monica (Leslie Charleson), ex-lover Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and Bff Carly (Laura Wright) — will fantasize about how their relationships ...

James Franco will reprise his murderous role in General Hospital for a "longterm" storyline set to air later this year.
The Academy Award nominee shocked industry insiders when he first appeared on the longrunning soap back in 2009 as a serial killer, aptly named Robert 'Franco' Frank.
His return comes when his character's gay crush Jason Morgan is set to wed Sam McCall, and bosses have promised viewers they will witness Franco's madcap character's "most twisted plan yet".
The already busy Franco, who mixes his acting with art projects and several university courses, will have an even bigger juggling act on his hands - he will be expected to film General Hospital episodes in Hollywood while jetting to New York to star in a Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth opposite Nicole Kidman.

James Franco is set to be back on "General Hospital" again. The "Your Highness" actor will reprise his role as performance artist and serial killer Robert "Franco" Frank starting September 20, and this time it will not be a short one since his story arc is described as "longterm".
James' character, who has a crush on hit man Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), returns to the show right when Jason is set to tie the knot with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco). While it is not clear whether Franco will crash the wedding, a rep for the shows tells TV Guide that it will be his "most twisted plan yet" with Maxie (Kirsten Storms), Carly (Laura Wright) and her baby Josslyn involved in it.
James first appeared on "Gh" in 2009 and was last seen on the soap for a two-day cameo in February this year, just in time with his Oscar hosting gig.

I'm just catching up on all the hoopla surrounding Sonny and Brenda's recent wedding (my DVR is full of General Hospital episodes), but it looks like some emotional tragedy will be happening next in Port Charles.
As most of you will probably remember, Jason Morgan is actually the father of one of Elizabeth's sons: Jake. However, because he was in the mob at the time (and still is, actually), he decided to remove himself from Jake's life and allow Lucky to raise Jake as his own son (as Lucky and Elizabeth already had a son together). While Jason has obviously seen Jake as he's grown up from a baby into a toddler, he hasn't allowed himself the luxury of taking on a parental role.
Starting later this week on March 17, poor little Jake is going to be hit by a car. Elizabeth will be calling both of Jake's fathers to...

The actor, who is also hosting the Oscars with Anne Hathaway, will appear the soap on episodes airing Feb. 25 and Feb 28 (at 3 p.m. Et) to "wreak havoc" on the fictional town of Port Charles, according to a release from ABC, and to "make an important phone call to his nemesis Jason Morgan" (played by Steve Burton), who appears in a behind-the-scenes shot with Franco.

I’ve never really thought of Anne Hathaway as a “bad girl.” In fact, quite the opposite. She strikes me as the kind of girl other girls want to be BFFs forever with and guys want to take home to meet Mom. She’s charmed her way into being America’s new sweetheart, and roles like Mia in The Princess Diaries and Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada have cemented that status.
I’ve always thought of her as a kindred spirit of sorts. We’re both brunettes with warm brown eyes who have that sort of girl-next-door appeal. Aside from the fact that she’s much prettier, way cooler and a lot more rich and famous, we’re almost exactly alike! Ok, maybe not. But I was pleasantly surprised to hear that she will be indulging her inner “mean girl” in her next role, and she definitely won’t...

Steve Burton's mob character, Jason Morgan, on 'General Hospital' is turning in his gun for a microphone. The actor has formed a cover band called 'Port Chuck' with castmates Scott Reeves (who plays Steven Lars), Brandon Barash (Johnny) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and they're going on tour starting Wed., Sept. 8 in Nashville. (Check www.portchuck.com for dates and cities.)
Jason's on the move, too. The week of Sept. 13 he'll travel to Rome to track down ex-wife Brenda Barrett, played by returning fan favorite Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo. While Brenda's one-true love is Sonny and Jason's heart belongs to Sam (and Elizabeth, too), there's no denying that Jason and Brenda share a surprising 'Moonlighting'-style banter that 'Gh' plans to tap into.
Burton talked to TV Squad about the origins of his cover band, revisiting Brenda and which dearly departed Quartermaine family member he'd like to see return to the show.

Will Ferrel is a well-known funnyman. What is less well known is how funny Mark Wahlberg is (I Heart Huckabees). Does this pair, plus director Adam McKay, add up to the comedy hit of the summer?

When psycho killer Franco showed back up in Port Charles to wreak havoc today on General Hospital, it was all about the return of that creepy smile. Just like in his first episode last winter, actor James Franco’s face was mostly obscured, as he spoke cryptically to mob lawyer Diane (Cougar Town’s Carolyn Hennesy) while pretending to be a homeless man. Then he skulked around the apartment building of newly-freed Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), let out of jail specifically to lure out Franco, Jason’s nemesis.

Things are about to get a little more interesting -- on more than one level -- on "General Hospital," thanks to Franco.
Franco the character and James Franco, the actor who plays him, return to the ABC soap opera on Wednesday (June 30). The character is bent on revenge against Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) from his last stint in Port Charles, and Franco himself is also approaching his stint as not just an acting job, but also as a performance art piece.
"The reaction to me being on [last fall] was, I don't know, one of surprise -- people couldn't understand why I was on 'General Hospital,'" Franco tells Zap2it. "So I wanted to take all that and push it even farther. So I talked to Jeffrey Deitch, who's the new head of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and we started discussing how we could turn it into an art project.

So...does this count as Jeffrey Deitch's first spectacle as director of Moca? The flashy gallerist took the reins at the Los Angeles museum on June 1 and today, Moca announces the performance piece Soap at Moca, which will bring actor James Franco and the plotline of General Hospital within the museum walls. We'd think the whole thing was bug-eyed bonkers if we didn't know Deitch better: Our experts who contributed free advice for Deitch's new role predicted this whole thing would happen a few months ago.
As we don't need to tell Gh fans, Franco has been playing an artist on the soap opera since last season. When rumors surfaced that his work on Gh would get a real-life gallery show at Deitch Projects, the soap and art worlds first began their sudsy agitation. Now it's all happening, only bigger: Franco's character will get his big break, a show at Moca,...

For as long as most of us can remember, the mob has played an integral part in the 'General Hospital' storylines. Characters involved with syndicated crime like Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan are veritable anti-heroes, the bad guys we love despite their wayward ways. Hell, even Luke Spencer has been a shady character and look at his enduring popularity.
Despite the criminal side of these characters, there have always been the traditional values espoused as well. Love and marriage, children and parenting ... there's no way to be a soap hero without facing the problems and conflicts of being a father. We've been getting a lot of mixed messages from 'Gh' about fathering. Take a look at these three perplexing examples:

If you've watched the trailer for The Bounty Hunter, you won't be surprised that the critic reviews are brutal. After last year's The Ugly Truth and now this, let's hope Hollywood finally recognizes Gerard Butler is not the least bit suited for comedy.
"I stared with glazed eyes at The Bounty Hunter. Here is a film with no need to exist."
— Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"...confused and joyless..."
— Dezhda Gaubert, E!
"It's a formula for romantic comedy gold, but The Bounty Hunter screws it up with a miscalculated story, useless subplots, and lack of anything resembling romantic chemistry between Butler and Aniston."
— Jason Morgan, filmcritic.com
"...a hapless sucker..."
— A. O. Scott, New York Times
"...another Jennifer Aniston dud."

New Moca director Jeffrey Deitch might have just accepted the art world's most controversial position, but if there's one thing everyone can agree he's great at, it's throwing a party. And now, he's got a bright, blank new L.A. canvas to work with. We asked artists, curators and critics to provide some guidance for Deitch's new gig.
Time to pitch a Moca reality show to one of the major networks now that you're in L.A. The concept is your life: "Ack! The economy's gone to shit so now I'm a newbie museum director." During this 13-episode series viewers will watch you navigate museum politics, get lost in L.A. and schmooze with celebrities and art glitterati. Show title: Sink or Swim! The prize: Glory--and the USA's best museum stays open.-Paddy Johnson, Art Fag City
Deitch should expand his plans with James Franco and General Hospital and embrace Los Angeles' soap opera scene.

You think that your week was bad? Try having the two most important women in your life kidnapped by a maniac killer, hidden away in two separate locations both outfitted with identical bombs counting down to the same second, and realizing that you can only save one. That's the hell that General Hospital's Franco unleashed on Jason Morgan this week, and if that doesn't ease your week's blow, maybe the following emotional scenes from this afternoon's episode will.

It has been days since Port Charles last saw Franco, the graffiti artist "whose canvas is murder." Just ask Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), General Hospital's ruggedly handsome mobster who has been staking out Franco's crime scene apartment all this time. It's exhaustive work, partly because on three separate occasions, Jason heard heavy footsteps outside and braced as the doorknob turned -- only for one of Jason's nosy colleagues to enter the mysteriously unlocked boudoir. This afternoon though, Franco re-emerged from the shadows to give Jason the scare of his week.

Today's the day! James Franco made his soap debut on "General Hospital" as Franco.
Franco appears to be, on the one hand, an elusive but promising photographer who will show his work at a Crimson magazine gallery event. On the other hand, he makes his first appearance on the show dressed like a homeless person, lurking in the shadows as mobster Sonny Corinthos and his right-hand man Jason Morgan walk into a mob trap that turns violent on Front Street in Port Charles.
Franco witnesses the entire shootout, which leaves Sonny victorious and his rivals down for the count. As Sonny and Jason drive away from the scene of the crime, Franco, with a hoodie hiding his face, waves at the limo, taunting Jason.
I realize some back story might help here. See, earlier this month, this whole thing went down where Sonny's wife Claudia went bonkers, because it...

James Franco, who is notably credited for his work in the Spider-Man trilogy, Pineapple Express and Milk, officially makes his debut on General Hospital today. If the fireworks in this clip are any indication, movie star James Franco kicks off his two-month arc on General Hospital with a bang tomorrow. His character, Franco, seems to be the mysterious voyeur who's been watching the mob activities in Port Charles, including Claudia Zachara's murder/cover-up. This time it looks like he's witness to a shoot-out involving the town's premier hit man and his boss, Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos. And he's making sure he gets noticed.
