Charles Osgood, the witty CBS News journalist who shepherded “CBS Sunday Morning” for more than two decades — a longer tenure than the show’s original host, Charles Kuralt — died Tuesday at 91 years of age after living for a period of time with dementia, according to CBS News.
He also hosted a durable radio-news segment, “The Osgood File,” between 1971 and 2017. The audio vignettes were heard four times each weekday morning on various stations across the U.S., and Osgood would sometimes analyze a news event, and, in other moments, provide rhyming commentary on the latest headlines. He would sometimes bid listeners farewell by telling them: “I’ll see you on the radio.”
“Short words, short sentences, short paragraphs,” Osgood was known to say. “There’s nothing that can’t be improved by making it shorter and better.”

Coming to terms with his 2018 diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease has been an enormous challenge for Neil Diamond. In an interview with Anthony Mason for the April 2 episode of CBS Sunday Morning, Diamond admits that he only recently accepted the hard reality about his health.
“I think this has just been in the last few weeks,” says Diamond, 82. “I don’t like it. But the … this is me, this is what I have to accept. And I’m willing to do it. And, Ok, so this is the hand that God’s given me, and I have to make the best of it, and so I am. I am.”
“But somehow, a calm has moved in, and the hurricane of my life, and things have gotten very quiet, as quiet as this recording studio,” he continued. “And, I like it. I find that I like myself better. I’m easier on people.

When Nate Burleson joins Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil as co-host of CBS’s morning show next month, the program will have a new look, theme and name: CBS Mornings.
The changes, to launch on Sept. 7, will connect all of the morning shows together with some of the elements of its long running CBS Sunday Morning, which has long topped its time period on weekends, including the use of the sun logo and trumpet music, Gottfried Reiche’s Abblasen.
The first hour of the weekday broadcast will still be devoted to hard news and conversation, while the second hour will feature expanded feature reporting, a central part of the Sunday show, as well as live interviews, arts and culture pieces from Anthony Mason, who recently was co-host, and Vlad Duthiers with the What to Watch segment.

CBS News wants to spread some of its venerable newsmagazine “Sunday Morning” to other days of the week.
Starting September 7, the entire CBS morning schedule will be treated as a larger franchise, with weekdays and Saturdays featuring some of the in-depth and longform features for which the Sunday show — a TV-news institution — is best known.
The weekday program, which features Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and new co-host Nate Burleson, will be retitled “CBS Mornings,” and will be part of a lineup that includes “CBS Saturday Morning” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” Once known as “CBS This Morning,” the show will continue to highlight the breaking news of the day and the interactions of its hosts, but place new emphasis on longform stories in its second hour. The Saturday and Sunday shows, hosted by Jeff Glor, Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller and by Jane Pauley, respectively, will continue with the formats to which their viewers are accustomed.

After two years on “60 Minutes,” CBS News correspondent John Dickerson is shifting the focus of his political analysis and national affairs reporting to “CBS Sunday Morning” and other broadcasts. He’s also developing a series for Paramount Plus.
Dickerson’s title at CBS News has been bumped up from senior political analyst to chief political analyst and senior national correspondent, reflecting the breadth of his reporting. He’ll continue to serve as a key anchor on breaking news for major national events.
CBS News emphasized that moving Dickerson out of the deep-dive long-lead reporting tradition of “60 Minutes” will allow him to produce more for “Sunday Morning” as well as “CBS This Morning,” “CBS Evening News With Norah O’Donnell” and “Face the Nation.”

ViacomCBS has been searching for a successor to CBS News President Susan Zirinsky, according to people familiar with the matter, as media companies place new emphasis on their news divisions to attract the big, live audiences that advertisers and distributors continue to crave while more consumers migrate to streaming video.
George Cheeks, CEO of ViacomCBS’ CBS assets, has been holding talks with potential candidates for weeks, according to these people. There is no set timeline for Zirinsky to step down. She is likely to take a new role as a top producer of CBS News programming that can appear across the company’s venues, whether they include the CBS broadcast network, its Cbsn live-streaming portal, or its subscription-based streaming hub, Paramount Plus. Zirinsky has long been known for her love of overseeing news production, and retained a title as a senior executive producer when she took on the role of president.

CBS News is debuting a special on Woody Allen that will feature an exclusive, never-before-aired interview with the filmmaker done last year, following the publication of his memoir, as well as the CBS This Morning interview with Dylan Farrow, who has accused him of sexual abuse when she was a child.
Allen has denied the allegations, but does address them in the interview with CBS News’ Lee Cowan. It was conducted in July, before HBO aired its documentary, Allen v. Farrow.

So I wake up after tossing and turning all night over the Coronavirus crisis, tune into CBS News This Morning, and there are hosts Mary Calvi and Chris Wragge standing in the pouring rain, the awning for the CBS Broadcast Center in the background. They are talking about how the building – the New York nerve center for numerous network and local newscasts – is shut again for precautionary reasons. Closed last week after people began testing positive for Covid-19, the building began to reopen with skeleton crews, but now it’s closed again. The local anchors cut to La-based Hermela Aregawi, who quarterbacked the newscast and introduced numerous CBS News This Morning journalists, all standing in the rain, in streets all over New York.

Taylor Swift’s controversial anti-Scooter efforts to re-record her old music apparently is on track, at least as intentions go. In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning this weekend, Swift confirms the plan to correspondent Tracy Smith.
Smith asks Swift about re-recording her songs as a way to regain control of master recordings.

The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.
