Commentators seemed to think the Republican candidate – and the Gop – pulled it off at the end of four bizarre days in Tampa
Did Mitt Romney pull it off? There's a good case to be made that the Republican convention was a success. Somehow, over the course of four delirious days, the Gop managed to hide its divisions and make a reasonable show of unified support for a candidate many members aren't happy with. Last night it looked like Romney's party. So was it something he said?
Romney's speech accepting the Republican nomination garnered more than the usual enthusiasm from conservative pundits, and they (mostly) didn't sound like they were faking it. A couple of big lines in the speech drew big drew exuberant cheers from the virtual bleachers, in particular, this one:
President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet. My promise.

Gop presidential hopeful Mitt Romney earned a sustained boo from the crowd on Wednesday (July 11) evening when he spoke at the NAACP's annual meeting in Houston. The negative reaction was in response to a negative reference to "Obamacare" by the Republican.
"I'm going to eliminate every nonessential expensive program I can find," said Romney. "That includes ObamaCare."
The presumptive Gop nominee then stood with a smile on his face for about 15 seconds as the crowd jeered his remark, reports the Christian Science Monitor. There were more boos later in the speech when Romney said President Barack Obama "cannot do" all the things he's promised.
Some speculate that the incident could actually galvanize Romney's supporters.
"This gives him all sorts of instant credibility on the Right and in the middle," writes conservative talk show host/blogger Ed Morrissey. "The middle will be pleased to see that Romney went to the convention at all,...

"The Swiss government declared renowned film director Roman Polanski a free man on Monday after rejecting a Us request to extradite him on a charge of having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl," report Bradley S Klapper and Frank Jordans of the AP. "The Swiss mostly blamed Us authorities for failing to provide confidential testimony about Polanski's sentencing procedure in 1977-1978. The Justice Ministry also said that national interests were taken into consideration in the stunning decision."
