Wgn America is adding to its Prime Crime slate with the acquisition of two original series in the detective procedural genre — the comedic Carter, starring Jerry O’Connell (Billions), Sydney Poitier Heartsong (Chicago P.D.) and Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), which will premiere August 7, and crime drama Gone, starring Chris Noth (The Good Wife), Leven Ramblin (The Hunger Games) and Danny Pino (CSI: Miami), for debut in early 2019.
Carter and Gone are part of Wgn America’s new programming strategy of cost-effective originals launched a year ago that involves acquisitions of already produced series, virtually all in the crime arena. The two new pickups represent a new element in the tactic. While all previous acquisitions have been foreign series — 2017 Canadian detective drama Bellevue starring Anna Paquin, 2015 Swedish-American thriller 100 Code, 2016 Canadian police series Shoot the Messenger and the 2017 Canadian drama Pure — Carter and Gone, while having international pedigree, both originated in the U.

John Leguizamo's last effort to get a show on ABC didn't work out -- the network passed on "The Kings of Van Nuys," a comedy he starred in, last season.
He's taking another shot with the network, though, this time with a show based on his own life.
Leguizamo will star in a pilot based loosely on his life as a husband and father living on Manhattan's affluent Upper West Side while trying to stay connected to his roots in the Bronx. Leguizamo also co-wrote the story for the pilot with Chris Sheridan ("Family Guy," "Titus").
Other pilot news:
- Kevin Pollak ("The Usual Suspects," "Shark") has joined the cast of CBS' "Beverly Hills Cop" series, which stars Brandon T. Jackson as the son of Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy, who will appear in and is an executive producer of the pilot). He'll play the in-house counsel for the Beverly Hills Pd,...

A Steampunk Series! Sure we’ve seen flashes of steampunk aesthetic used in shows from Warehouse 13 to the 1980s Beauty and the Beast all the way back to the 1960s The Wild Wild West, but this proposed show embraces the elements to the point of actually using it in the name of the series, Gaslight.
Admittedly, the premise isn’t what has us so excited; according to Deadline, it will be “a lavish soap opera of passion, greed and hope” at which point we nearly moved on without noting the crucial element: “Set In A Modern-day Steampunk World” (our emphasis, of course) “in which three rival families battle for power and redemption in a re-imagined San Francisco.” We are suddenly fans of lavish soap operas of passion, greed, and hope.
The pilot is set to be written by Michael Cooney (Identity) who will executive produce along with Ian Sander...

Just as Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely, and Dean Lorey begin writing the new 10-episode season of the once-cancelled-and-recently-internet-greenlit Fox television show Arrested Development (scheduled to air on Netflix sometime in 2013), Crackle greenlights another entrant into the Long-Form-Content-of-Television-Quality-but-Distributed-Online fray. Andrew Wallenstein at Variety reports the digital network, studio, and destination for television programs, movies, and a healthy amount of original web series just ordered six episodes of a half-hour anthology series dubbed The Unkown. Sons of Anarchy producer Chris Collins and the Co-Head of Fox Writers Studio Steve Tzirlin are on board to executive produce. The Unkown will be in the vein of The X-Files, Creepshow, and/or Twilight Zone and is scheduled scheduled to go into production in March for a 2012 release. That’s almost a full year after Eric Berger, Executive Vice President of Digital Networks at Sony Pictures Television, announced Crackle would make a pivot into long-form, but still male-leaning programming.
