This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 11 “The Outsider.”
Fate. The main narrative thrust of the original and new Quantum Leap is changing fate. To put right what once went wrong. That doesn’t mean that Leapers like Sam (Scott Bakula) and Ben (Raymond Lee) can just change anything they want however. When Leapers are given their missions they’re often small, helping individual lives instead of making changes on a global scale. Why? Why can’t a Leaper, who’s supposed to make the world better, change bigger parts of the fate of history?
Season 2 episode 11 of the new Quantum Leap, “The Outsider” brings this question to the forefront. In the two previous episodes, Ben had learned current love interest Hannah’s husband was going to die of heart disease. In a full Back to the Future moment, Ben writes a letter to Hannah before that happens so she can prevent it.

National Geographic has brought Emmy award-winning composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein on board to score its upcoming docudrama “Valley of the Boom,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Dixon and Stein are best known for their work on the soundtrack of “Stranger Things,” for which they received two Grammy nominations as well as an Emmy for outstanding main title theme music.
“We have long been inspired by the rich history and bright music from the 1990s, so when we learned of National Geographic’s ‘Valley of the Boom,’ we were thrilled to be collaborating,” said Dixon and Stein. “Sound shapes story, and we want this soundtrack to reflect the unconventional yet exhilarating era Matthew Carnahan exposes in the series.”
These are the latest celebrated composers to work with Nat Geo. The network previously collaborated with Hans Zimmer for “Genius,” Nick Cave and Warren Ellis for “Mars,” Philip Glass for “Janes,” and...

As season three of "Orange is the New Black" continues to explore the inner workings of the prison itself and how McC's acquisition impacts the staff and inmates, for the first time since the series began, I find myself more interested in what happens to the staff. I find the privatization of Litchfield fascinating and believe it is an important story to tell, but I can also see the difficulty some would have with it. However, in between the McC drama, episodes six and seven of season three, "Ching Chong Chang" and "Tongue-Tied", choose to bring minor characters to the foreground and it feels like a detour. The season thus far has really lacked the central, character-driven focus that has been the hallmark of years past, making it difficult for some to find something to grab onto. Exploring Chang (Lori Tan Chinn) and Norma's (Annie Golden) backstories in the "Ching...

An upcoming episode of Men of a Certain Age will reunite Scott Bakula with his Quantum Leap brother, David Newsom.
TV Guide reports that Newsom will once again play Bakula's on-screen sibling. He'll be playing Mark, the younger brother of Terry who's happily married with two children and his own business. Terry, who's working with Owen (Andre Braugher) as a car salesman, hasn't seen Mark in some time and tries to reconnect with him.
Quantum Leap fans may remember that Newsom played Lt. Tom Beckett, the older brother of Bakula's time-traveling Dr. Sam Beckett. In a very memorable episode, Sam lept into a fellow soldier in Tom's Navy unit in Vietnam. Tom had originally died but Sam was able to change history to save his brother's life.
