Warning: This review is written with the assumption that the reader has seen the episode. Do not read otherwise. Includes major spoilers.
After a steady build up in two recent episodes (5.07 and 5.11) the arc of Lisbon and Tommy Volker came to a head in this week’s fast paced and fairly action packed episode of The Mentalist, titled ‘Little Red Corvette’.
We’d seen it before, particularly in ‘If it Bleeds, it Leads’ with Amanda Shaw (Rhea Bailey), but opening the episode with Volker (Henry Ian Cusick) once again taking pleasure from seeing his henchman kill someone sure upped the creep factor. Volker seemed to genuinely get off on the power of it all, watching the life drain out of their eyes. I just now realize that’s how Jane (Simon Baker) described Red John, but I refuse to go down that rabbit hole.

Stepping away from the drama of Red John – which isn't always a good thing, in my opinion – we're back to case-of-the-week, wherein a wine mogul accused of killing her lover piques Jane's( Simon Baker) interest. And as usual, the B-plot – in this case, Cho's (Tim Kang) plucky little hooker friend Summer (Samaire Armstong) getting a little too daring during an undercover op ending with interesting results – ends up being the more compelling storyline. It starts out simply enough. Local winery owner Eve Mulberry (Bonnie Somerville) is accused of killing her dance instructor lover. After taking a look at her on the courthouse steps, and asking her a couple of questions aimed at reading her expressions, Jane decides she's innocent. And since Jane can't ignore a new puzzle or challenge, he waylays Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and the team into proving Eve's innocence. Problem is, the trial is already underway and the jury is out.

Though it's seemed like NBC's Lipstick Jungle was dead in the water, the show is proving to be much more resilient than expected. Though the series' last filmed episode aired on January 9th, and few watched, there's still hope that Brooke Shields and company may return.
As you may recall, Lipstick Jungle revolves around three successful professionals from the Big Apple, played by Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsey Price. Others in the cast include Paul Blackthorne, Andrew McCarthy, Robert Buckley, Sarah Hyland, David Norona, Dylan Clark Marshall, Seth Kirschner, Matt Lauria, David Alan Basche, and Marcia DeBonis.
After ordering a second season of 13 episodes, NBC opted not to order "the back nine" installments to complete the season. That didn't come as much of a surprise considering the size of the Jungle viewership.

Tonight's episode of Lipstick Jungle is the last episode shot for the NBC series. After a disappointing showing in the ratings, NBC opted not to order any additional episodes, effectively cancelling the TV show. Actress Brooke Shields subsequently proclaimed that the show hadn't been cancelled and NBC started to backpedal a bit. Now, as we come to the end of the series' second season, how do things stand?
Based on a best-selling book by Candace Bushnell, Lipstick Jungle follows the lives of three high-powered friends, played by Shields, Kim Raver, and Lindsay Price. The rest of the cast includes performers like Paul Blackthorne, Andrew McCarthy, Robert Buckley, Sarah Hyland, David Norona, Dylan Clark Marshall, Seth Kirschner, Matt Lauria, David Alan Basche, and Marcia DeBonis.
Jungle debuted on February 7, 2008 and attracted just 7.54 million viewers and a 2.9/8 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The rest of the season averaged fewer than six million viewers each week and,...

Over the weekend, Brooke Shields, star of NBC's Lipstick Jungle, said that reports of the series' demise were greatly exaggerated. She told Us Weekly, "They're not breaking down the sets. We're still working. We still have more to do, so it's erroneously presented that we've been cancelled, thank God."
What's going on? Well, there haven't been big changes to the TV show's fate but some developments may give Jungle fans some hope.
Shields and company (Kim Raver, Lindsay Price, Paul Blackthorne, Andrew McCarthy, Robert Buckley, Sarah Hyland, David Norona, Dylan Clark Marshall, etc.) are indeed finishing up episode 13 of season two this week. NBC did not shut down production of Jungle but have yet to order any more either. The show was performing poorly on Wednesday nights and was moved to Fridays where it did even worse than its predecessor in the timeslot, Life.

The peacock network has gotten tired of picking up the tab for "three of New York's most powerful women." They're cancelling the Lipstick Jungle TV show after two seasons and 20 episodes.
Lipstick Jungle is based on the best-selling book by Sex and the City's Candace Bushnell and follows the lives of three high-powered friends; former studio president Wendy Healy (Brooke Shields), magazine editor Nico Reilly (Kim Raver), and fashion designer Victory Fords (Lindsay Price). Others castmembers include performers like Paul Blackthorne, Andrew McCarthy, Robert Buckley, Sarah Hyland, David Norona, Dylan Clark Marshall, Seth Kirschner, Matt Lauria, David Alan Basche, and Marcia DeBonis.
The series debuted as a midseason replacement series on February 7, 2008. Despite being part of NBC's Thursday night line-up, Jungle only attracted 7.54 million viewers and a 2.9/8 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The rest of the season averaged fewer than six million viewers.
