- Jack Payne was born on August 22, 1899 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, UK. He was an actor and writer, known for Say It with Music (1932), Jamboree! (1957) and Pantomania, or It Was Never Like This (1955). He was married to Peggy Cochrane. He died on December 4, 1969 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, UK.

- Was Director of Dance Music for the BBC, 1928 to 1932 and 1941 to 1946. During the 1950's and 60's, worked for the BBC as a disc jockey.
- Led several successful dance bands during the 1920's and 30's, their complement varying from 6 to 20 musicians. They were showcased on radio and in British films. Payne's tag line was "Pleasure Without Payne". His was the first band to entertain troops in France in 1939.
