- 1984: The band was composed of Shane MacGowan, Jem Finer, James Fearnley, Cait O'Riordan, Andrew Ranken, and Spider Stacy.
- The name "The Pogues" is taken from the Irish Gaelic phrase Pog Mo Thoin (pronounced "pogue muh hone") which means "kiss my arse/ass".
- The Band was reunited in Christmas 2001 and since then have reunited to perform once a year every Christmas, usually at the Brixton Academy, London.
- 1996: The Pogues disband.
- 1991: Shane MacGowan is fired from the band.
- 1986: Cait O'Riordan leaves the band when she marries Elvis Costello (who produced the band's 1985 album Rum Sodomy & the Lash).
- 1988: Darryl Hunt and Terry Woods join the band.
