London, June 13 (Ians) Embodying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in robots so they can interact with the world around them and evolve like the human brain is the most likely way AI systems will develop human-like cognition, according to research.
Researchers from the University of Sheffield, UK, argued that AI systems are unlikely to resemble real brain processing no matter how large their neural networks or the datasets used to train them might become, if they remain disembodied.
Current AI systems, such as ChatGPT, use large neural networks to solve difficult problems, such as generating intelligible written text. These networks teach AI to process data in a way that is inspired by the human brain and also learn from their mistakes in order to improve and become more accurate.
However, the researchers said there are also important differences.

Coronation Street's houses will be bigger on the show's new Salford Quays set. The move from Quay Street Studios, which it has had since the 1960s, is set to be made next year. On the current set, the houses are only three quarters the scale of a normal house, meaning cameramen have to perform "tricks" in scenes. Coronation Street director Tony Prescott told The Sun: "We use camera tricks - you can do anything with a wide lens - to get it to look normal, but the new set will be scaled up." (more)...

Mike Goldman is best known for his continuing role in the Big Brother Australia series since it began more than a decade ago.
However, the 39 year-old Goldman is aiming to transcend the common typecasting of reality television hosts through his starring role as a fictional version of himself in the feature film, Shooting Goldman, due for release in 2013.
"This is completely out of character for me," Goldman said of his his role in the film. His inspiration was "to make a movie where people aren.t sure whether I.m being myself".
Shooting Goldman is a psychological-thriller based on a reality television host whose career and life has been fabricated to an extent.
Goldman.s satirical representation of the reality television genre which is primarily responsible for his recent fame reflects his feeling that "people are just going to pigeon hole me" if he does not challenge the perception of his identity.

Emmerdale Live's director Tony Prescott has given advice to the soap's cast ahead of their roles in the special episode. Prescott believes that actors should focus their performance on their co-stars rather than become "lost" by thinking about the viewers watching on TV. The filmmaker, who shot Coronation Street's 50th anniversary two years ago, told the Yorkshire Post: "Forget about the audience at home, play to your colleagues and crew. This is the normal way you would play this scene. "Forget the millions. If you start bringing that into your head then you're lost. I know they can pull it off, they're at the peak of their game." Reflecting on the scale of the live episode, Prescott added: "The biggest challenge for me is managing the anxiety! But by the time we're (more)...

Emmerdale bosses have revealed that there is no back-up plan in place to escape bad weather on the night of the soap's live episode. The ITV1 serial will broadcast an hour-long live edition to tie in with its 40th anniversary celebrations next month. As the special instalment will be shot entirely on location at the Emmerdale village, cast and crew must be prepared to cope with poor conditions on the night. Speaking at an Emmerdale press conference, the episode's director Tony Prescott was asked whether there is a 'plan B' to keep the cast dry in the event of rain. However, he replied: "No! It's so complicated to try and stage something of this magnitude. It's going to take us 11 days to rehearse it. We'd have to rehearse for (more)...

Emmerdale bosses are planning a "spectacular" live episode for the soap's 40th anniversary celebrations next year, a report has claimed today. Earlier this week, director Tony Prescott sparked speculation over the rural soap's forthcoming milestone after he apparently hinted at an Emmerdale live broadcast in an interview with The Stage. According to The Sun today, Prescott has already been chosen to take the helm of the live transmission after he successfully directed Coronation Street live episodes in 2000 and 2010. Insiders say that a live instalment of Emmerdale would see a number of dramatic plotlines reach a climax on screen. A source told the newspaper: "No storylines have been decided yet. Bosses want a big surprise and a big disaster. Corrie pushed the limits with their live stunts last year." The latest (more)...

The director of Coronation Street's 40th and 50th anniversary live episodes has said that "event" television is "the future". Tony Prescott recently scooped a BAFTA TV Craft Award for his work on last December's live episode, which saw the aftermath of a tram cash on the Street. "I would love to do more live drama on television and I think television as an event now is the future," he told The Stage. "Look at shows such as The X Factor and Dancing on Ice - all the biggest grossing shows now are because they are live and they are events. "You can't have an opinion the next day if you have not watched them live, can you?" Prescott expressed his belief that weekly dramas could begin broadcasting live, while also implementing an interactive element: "Imagine, in the future, audiences could (more)...
