Dublin International Film Festival has unveiled its full programme for the upcoming edition, opening with the world premiere of Irish filmmaker Marian Quinn’s anti-war epic Twig.
This re-telling of Greek tragedy Antigone stars Sade Malone in the titular role and Brían F. O’Byrne, and is set in Dublin’s inner city, where an ancient city wall cordons off a neighbourhood which is rife with drugs. The five-week shoot is now underway in Dublin. The feature stars Sade Malone in the titular role and Brían F. When the local crime lord, Leon, played by O’Byrne, vows to let her brother Paulie’s body rot in the street, Twig sets out to do the right thing.

Six-time Oscar-nominated Irish director Jim Sheridan is writing and will direct Murphy And The Indian, the true story of Standing Bear, a Native American and civil rights leader who won a landmark 1879 legal case.
Standing Bear argued in the historic case that Native Americans are “persons within the meaning of the law”. The Ponca Chief was recently honoured with a statue in the Us Capitol.
The project has received development financing of €22,500 from Screen Ireland in its latest round of funding decisions.

A host of Irish titles have screened to Us audiences at the recent San Francisco Irish Film Festival, The Chicago Irish Film Festival and the current Craic Festival running from 12-15 March in NYC. Aidan Quinn will be in attendance at the Craic Festival in NYC tonight, for the Friday night gala screening of '32 A' in which he stars. Directed by Marian Quinn '32A' is a coming of age story set in Ireland back in the 1970's. Steve McQueen's Ifta winning 'Hunger' opened the festival on Thursday night which will also see Magma Films 'Summer of the Flying Saucer' screen as part of the Kids Fleadh as well as Lenny Abrhamson's 'Garage', Liam Nolan and Ross Whitaker's 'Saviours' and the Kíla Concert Film 'Once Upon A Time'.

London -- Marian Quinn's coming of age feature "32A," prison break title "The Escapist," Lance Daly's urban drama "Kisses," the Enda Walsh-scripted "Hunger" and Ian Fitzgibbon's dark comedy "A Film With Me In It" will battle it out for this year's best feature at the Irish Film and Television Academy awards.
Organizers announced the nominations across 37 categories in both film and television Thursday in Dublin.
Daly and Fitzgibbon will battle it out in the best film director category with Martin McDonagh ("In Bruges") and Declan Recks ("Eden"), organizers said. The event also will see the introduction of an award this time round in the newly created best feature documentary category.
The shortlist includes the musical "Dambe -- The Mali Project," "Gabriel Byrne: Stories from Home," Irish boxing documentary "Saviours," the asylum seekers story of "Seaview" and the surfing documentary "Waveriders."
The awards will be dished out in Dublin on Feb.

The film follows sweet-faced 13-year-old Maeve (Ailish McCarthy) experiencing a lot of firsts: her first love, her first heartache, her first bra. But there's trouble in the sisterhood when she starts to fall for the local heartthrob and leaves her best friends behind. The film takes places in Dublin, Ireland in 1979.
