One of the great things about the old broadcast TV model, in which seasons stretched to 20+ episodes, mere months separated one season from the next, and production schedules were thus unforgivingly demanding, was that producers always had an insatiable need for new talent. Filming 22 consecutive 42-minute episodes over the course of a few months? Your principals aren't going to be enough to cover all the ground your story will invariably traverse, and besides, they wouldn't have the time or energy even if you asked.

Naked and Afraid is no joke. The Discovery Channel reality series follows people as they fight to survive in some of the most extreme environments on Earth. Participants battle extreme weather and rough terrain in the hopes that they can last three weeks in the wild. Wild animals are also a very real threat, with cast members sometimes sharing space with dangerous predators such as lions and alligators. Fortunately, no one has died on the show. But has anyone actually been attacked on Naked and Afraid?
‘Naked and Afraid’ cast members are often attacked by insects
The idea of being attacked by a lion, crocodile, bear, or other wild creature is undoubtedly terrifying. But for many Naked and Afraid cast members, the real threat comes in a much smaller package. Often, survivalists must endure painful bites and stings from insects and spiders. And those tiny critters can do serious damage.

While acknowledging its mental anguish for those who appear, they said when some of the participants “start to crack,” they sometimes make choices they’re sure to regret. Naked and Afraid isn’t for the faint of heart. The survival-based reality TV show, which dumps two people (typically one female and one male) in a remote location without food, water, or clothing, is truly a battle of willpower. But while the cast members are almost always left to their own devices, they aren’t completely without access to help. Turns out, the cast has a secret way of calling for help in the case of a true emergency. But just how are they able to send out an Sos should they really need to?

In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

A musical about the great Temptations is headed to Broadway. Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations, directed by Des McAnuff and produced by Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce, will begin performances at the Imperial Theatre in spring 2019.
The musical, which follows the classic Motown vocalists – and their signature dance moves – from “the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” had its world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where it became the highest grossing production in that theater’s nearly 50-year history. Producers describe the show as the “story of brotherhood, family, loyalty, and betrayal,” all playing out against a backdrop of civil unrest and set to Temptations classics like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,...

Alan Ball will be stepping down as showrunner of "True Blood" at the end of Season 5, and now we know who will replace him should HBO renew the series for a Season 6. But before we get ahead of ourselves, here are the synopses of Episodes 5.01, 5.02, and 5.03, airing June 10, 17, and 24.
According to Deadline, co-executive producer Mark Hudis will be upped to executive producer/showrunner for Season 6 as part of an overall deal he has signed with HBO. The two-year pact also includes a development component.
Hudis has been on "True Blood" for two seasons — last year’s Season 4 and Season 5, which premieres June 10th. While his and Ball’s paths previously crossed on the CBS comedy series "Cybill", where they co-wrote several episodes during the 1997-98 season, the two first met two decades ago working at trade publication AdWeek. While leaving "True Blood" full-time after Season 5, Ball is staying in business...

An island mystery is little more than a place holder in the form of a filler episode this week, with a few funny moments and not much else. Lisbon does work with her entire team this time and there are a few character developing moments, but on the whole, this one just didn't capture me. A dead girl washes up on the shore of a small island off the California mainland, raped and strangled. Jane (Simon Baker) wanders around playing with drift wood to assess the tides while Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) talk to a butterfly conservationist, Gardner (Jonathan Schmock) who found the body.
