There have been a number of eye-opening Beatles documentaries through the years, from the Beatlemania doc Eight Days a Week; a tribute to the Fab Four’s loyal secretary, Good Ol’ Freda; Martin Scorsese’s poignant George Harrison: Living in the Material World; and last but certainly not least, Peter Jackson’s recent eight-hour opus Get Back, chronicling the recording of the group’s final album, Let It Be, and subsequent demise.

Of all the killer dolls committed to celluloid, Chucky is one of the most recognizable. Since 1988, the ginger-haired Good Guy toy has been host to the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) and has since spread his mayhem across six sequels, a remake, and a successful television series about to go into its third season.
It all began with "Child's Play," first conceived by Don Mancini. The son of an ad industry veteran, Mancini aimed to satirize the stranglehold marketing had on kids. Before co-writer John Lafia and director Tom Holland touched the story, it originally lacked the serial killer or occult rituals seen in the final product. But the Chucky we know and recoil from would not only be possessed by Lee Ray and kill a man via a voodoo doll, but he would dispatch a babysitter, blow up an old acquaintance, attempt to kill a mother and two cops,...

When Jennifer Tilly starred in Bride of Chucky, she gave the killer doll a partner in crime. Tilly played Tiffany Valentine, the girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) before he placed his soul in a child’s doll. 19 years and three movies later, Tilly is still playing Tiffany in Cult of Chucky. “I did not expect to be in every Chucky movie ‘til the end of time,” Tilly laughed. What a role it’s been for Tiffany. In Seed of Chucky, Tilly played herself as Tiffany the doll tried to possess her. She showed up for a credits scene in...read more...

Let’s save wordcount and cut any intro fluff – I have ranked every single Child’s Play kill. From Charles Lee Ray’s very first “death” transference to the final frame of Don Mancini’s latest installation, Cult Of Chucky. Window drops, airbag nail bombs, heart attacks. The works. Why Because Child’s Play helped invigorate a glorious era […]

He just wants to be your friend... Since the release of Child's Play in 1988, the possessed doll Chucky has given generations of horror fans enough nightmare fuel to last a lifetime, along with a healthy dose of dark comedy and creepy wisecracks. Following the release of the seventh film in the franchise, Cult of Chucky, the Corpse Club thought it would be the perfect time to discuss one of cinema's most beloved—and feared—dolls.
In episode 22 of Corpse Club, co-hosts Patrick Bromley, Heather Wixson, Scott Drebit, and Jonathan James gather around the microphones with their Good Guys dolls to discuss the Chucky films, including their favorite kills by the possessed doll, the diverse entries in the now seven-film franchise, what they enjoy the most about Don Mancini's most recent sequel, Cult of Chucky, and where they hope to see the franchise go in the future. Fair warning: The following text and interviews contain Cult Of Chucky Spoilers. Proceed at your own risk if you haven't already seen the film. Cult Of Chucky is a ridiculously fun and game-changing entry into the Child's Play/Chucky franchise, a movie that takes its time getting where it's going but once it gets there all bets are off. The finale of the film not only offers us multiple Chuckys (at least three in one room), but a shocker of an ending where the spirit of Charles Lee Ray... Read More...

For nearly 30 years now, Brad Dourif has been the driving force behind one of the horror genre’s greatest villains, Charles Lee Ray, or Chucky, as the doll version of his character likes to be called. With Child’s Play now having six different sequels, Dourif’s vocal performance as the franchise killer is the cornerstone of the Chucky series, and he really gets a chance to let loose in Cult of Chucky in some rather unexpected ways.
Daily Dead recently spoke with Dourif about Cult of Chucky, and he discussed how his involvement in the franchise has evolved throughout the years, his favorite moments from the series, being able to collaborate (and terrorize) with his own daughter, Fiona, who has become another driving force in the Chucky movies, and more.

Don Mancini’s Cult Of Chucky is an anomaly; Hollywood’s smallest horror icon “jumps the proverbial shark” but instead pulls off a daring scripted stunt that sticks its revitalized landing. We’ve come a long way since 1988 – Andy Barclay fighting his Good Guy nemesis – far enough to introduce a bride, child and now congregation into Chucky’s life. Mancini plays as wacky-and-loose as he wants with plot – it doesn’t get less believable than a murderous children’s toy possessed through a voodoo curse. So why not evolve mythology and upgrade Charles Lee Ray’s murderous capabilities? In keeping with the tradition of a forward-thinking franchise focused on reinvention, Chucky’s latest playdate strives for vigorous kills, legacy unquestioned and a logical blend of 80s-meets-modern-classics slasher intuition.

Let’s talk memorable movie killers for a second. Since Mrs. Bates first slashed her way through the shower curtain in Room 1 of that roadside motel in Psycho (1960), franchise-minded murderers have had a hard time of it in the consistency department, regardless of how strong they may have lunged out of the gate. Established classics of the genre, like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street have all given birth to an array of sequels, remakes and reboots that may have extended their nasty protagonists’ shelf life, but none could approach their origins in terms of frights or filmmaking quality.
The exception to this rule of inconsistency and ever-diminishing returns in serial killer movie franchises seems to be the maniac who may have been the most unlikely to succeed, or certainly to endure, to begin with. He would be Charles Lee Ray (played with customary intensity...

In Cult Of Chucky, the murderous doll returns to wreak more havoc, but is the seventh film in the franchise anything to get excited about?
It might sound like a very silly thing to say, but the Child's Play franchise has always remained fairly grounded.

We need to talk about Chucky.
You know him, of course; he’s the pint-sized demon that has stalked our nightmares ever since the original Child’s Play movie of ’88, back when Charles Lee Ray’s critter was still fresh on Hollywood’s horror scene. Fast forward to the here and now, and after five other entries into the cult series, we’re now teetering on the verge of Cult of Chucky, Don Mancini’s long-awaited horror sequel that builds on the foundations laid by 2013’s Curse of Chucky.
Yes, it’s been four long years since the red-haired little prick scurried onto our screens, and ahead of Cult‘s release in two months’ time, the folks at Bloody Disgusting have relayed yet another spooky image from the film in which that famous Devil Doll is seen taunting one of his hapless victims. Now, 19 years on (so depressing!) we have another movie in the offing in the form of Cult Of Chucky which sees the demonic doll back to haunt us once again showing that franchise (and Chucky) will not die.

Move over Jason, Freddy, and even Michael, I’m happy as long as I get a new Child’s Play sequel every few years. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Seed of Chucky is the best Child’s Play movie by John Waters that he never directed. And to me, it’s probably the most underappreciated entry in the entire series, because if you take a moment to look at what Don Mancini did with this 2004 sequel, you’ll realize it’s a brilliant celebration of B-movies that also cleverly mixes up the Child’s Play franchise formula once again.
Seed of Chucky picks up after the events of Bride of Chucky, addressing the deaths of both Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) and Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly), and the birth of their unlikely progeny, who was rescued from the graveyard by a ventriloquist named Psychs (Keith-Lee Castle) and now works as a dummy named “Shitface” (voiced by Billy Boyd). One night, Tiffany and Chucky’s offspring sees what...

The big horror franchises of the '80s followed a pretty similar life cycle. Churn out sequels year after year at first, slow down, eventually stop entirely, then reboot 20+ years later. Then, when the reboot doesn't hit big, get rebooted all over again just a few years later. That's the pattern Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street all fell into. But one '80s horror icon escaped that trend: Chucky. Chucky, a doll possessed by the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, has managed to avoid remake frenzy by rediscovering himself throughout sequels. The first three Child's Play movies were all about a family dealing with a doll that wants to kill them, but then in the late '90s the filmmakers realized that people love Chucky less as a...

You know a franchise has been around for awhile when the teaser trailer for an upcoming film touts it as “an all-new movie.” Such is the case with Cult Of Chucky, the seventh installment of the madcap Child’s Play series, a collection of films that make a better case for horror icons’ continued redeployment than, say, the Friday The 13th movies. After the first three films, the series took a more expressly comic turn with Bride Of Chucky and Seed Of Chucky, before returning to its darker and gorier roots with 2013’s Curse Of Chucky. Sadly, if you watched that one on Netflix, you were denied the chance to see a post-credits scene that featured the return of original star Alex Vincent, back for more tussles with the murderous doll imbued with the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (voiced by Brad Dourif).

For several years now Mezco Toyz has been releasing some of the coolest horror collectibles to hit the market. The best part? They're not showing any signs of slowing down. Child's Play fans... get ready to feel your wallet rumble.
Here's your first glimpse of Mezco's “Good Guy” Chucky.
Unlike the scarred and battle-damaged look Chucky normally displays (people have tried to destroy him in 6 films so far), this version represents the cleaner, earlier Chucky. His trademark outfit is un-slashed, his face is not yet mauled. Just as he did in his films, Chucky has lots to say, from his trademark “My name is Chucky” to far more sinister phrases. The star of the Child’s Play films, Chucky stands 15″ tall and features real cloth Good Guys clothing, 11 points of articulation, and his trademark orange hair and realistic glass-like eyes.

Ah, Valentine’s Day- that special time of year when, if you’re in a relationship, everything seems just wonderful. If you’re not, you pretty much wish everyone around you would stop being so damn lovey-dovey and just grow up already.
The horror genre has seen its share of passionate lovers and soul mates over the years willing to fight it out to the end, whether they’re being chased by creatures, psychotic serial killers, Mother Nature or even as they struggling against internal forces that threaten those they love most in the world.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day this Friday, I decided to pay homage to some of my very favorite couples in the horror that demonstrate to the very fullest the idea, “til death do us part.” Check out the first part of my 14 Favorite Horror Couples countdown below and look for part two later this week right here on Daily Dead!

There's no denying that Curse of Chucky (review) kicked a copious amount of ass, and now that the franchise is hotter than ever, word has come from franchise champion and Curse director Don Mancini that the evil little guy will indeed be back for round seven!
Our hope is that both Jennifer Tilly and Alex Vincent return with Fiona Dourif, who was incredible in the last feature.
Written and directed by Mancini, Curse of Chucky found a family imperiled by the murderous doll that launched a generation’s nightmares – determined to finish a job that was started long ago. The film stars Fiona Dourif (The Master, “True Blood”), A Martinez (“Longmire,” “General Hospital”), Danielle Bisutti (Get Smart, “CSI: Miami”) and Brennan Elliott (“Flight 93,” Double Jeopardy), with Brad Dourif (The Lord of the Rings) once again providing the voice of Chucky, the homicidal plaything inhabited by the spirit of notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray.

Director: Don Mancini. Review: Adam Wing. You can't keep a Good Guy down. Writer/creator Don Mancini is back in the director's chair for only the second time, after his debut on 2004's horror comedy crossover, Seed of Chucky. The first outing for everybody's favourite demonic doll is still the best of the franchise, even if 1998's third sequel, Bride of Chucky, runs it a close second. After the disappointment of 2004's lacklustre entry in the series, Curse of Chucky finds us back in traditional horror territory, with Don taking his first stab at the slasher sub-genre. Brad Dourif reprises his role as both the voice of Chucky and Charles Lee Ray, in a film that promises to shed more light on the characters we've grown to love over the years. Brad's real life daughter takes centre stage, and fans of the Child's Play series can expect a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees are the strong and deadly type. The two supernatural boogeymen have a nasty habit of silently lurking before popping up when the victim least expects it. On the flip side, dream demon Freddy Krueger possesses a killer wit and relishes in taunting his targets. Chucky embraces both varieties of psychopaths. The lethal doll quietly circles his prey, but bombards them with one-liners and chatter before delivering the final blow. Actor Brad Dourif has provided Chucky’s voice since Child’s Play and continues those vocal duties on Curse of Chucky. During a set visit, Dourif specifically came in to speak about articulating Chucky’s latest instalment and the horror icon’s staying power.
How does it feel revisting the Chucky franchise after nine years?
I’ve been talking to Don Mancini for a long time and we’ve been trying to get this ball rolling.

2013 – the year of Chucky. Not only did Charles Lee Ray terrorize viewers in a brand new, well received sequel, Don Mancini’s Curse Of Chucky, but celebrating his 25 years of slaughtering, harassing, and insulting, Universal has released Chucky: The Complete Collection limited edition Blu-Ray/DVD. Sure, you could always just buy Curse Of Chucky on Blu-Ray separately, but for fans of the series, Universal has packaged all six Chucky films, including Mancini’s latest curse, in one convenient collection. Hell, if you don’t own any of them and are intrigued by Curse of Chucky, might as well buy them all together and have a proper marathon – which might have been what I did.
The best part about owning every Chucky film is watching the transformation Mancini’s franchise goes through over the years. Child’s Play starts out as the most straight-forward, simplistic horror possible. Charles Lee Ray’s (Brad Dourif) backstory is established,...

Don Mancini, creator of the iconic killer doll Chucky, has cemented himself in horror history with his storied franchise. While he only wrote Child’s Play, as time when on and the sequels piled up, Mancini gained more and more power, guiding Chucky’s path to glory. As we’ve seen Mancini’s creation wander into comedic territory over the last two films, fans expressed a want to see Chucky get back to straight scares, and Mancini listened. His latest sequel, Curse Of Chucky, gets back to the horror basics, utilizing a dark, gothic genre vibe that focuses on making Chucky nothing but a nightmare haunting villain.

On the outside, Chucky may appear to be a harmless, pint-sized “friend to the end” Good Guy doll, but the popular toy houses the evil spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. Debuting in the 1988 film Child’s Play, Chucky has sliced, stabbed, and slaughtered his way through five movies in an effort to possess a human form. 2004's Seed of Chucky marked his last sadistic endeavor, and ever since he’s been missing in action... until now. With the state of Don Mancini’s Child’s Play franchise floating in a weird flux due to Seed Of Chucky‘s confusing, ridiculous, and off-putting conclusion, Curse Of Chucky came with mixed emotions – but a new hope. This was Mancini’s chance to atone for Glen/Glenda’s sins, and as more and more information started to leak on Chucky’s latest killing spree, fans started to see promise. Gone were the Franken-Chucky scars, sporting a clean new look, which also suggested no Tiffany, no Glen/Glenda, and again, if trailers and such were to be believed, no Andy Barclay. New victims, new story, and the removal of everything we hated – Curse Of Chucky had every inclination of getting back to the dark, true horror Chucky started with. Seed of who?
