Stephen Colbert's decision to end The Colbert Report with a musical finale might make more sense after watching this clip. Roughly 20 years ago, Colbert said farewell to another comedic institution — Chicago's Second City — with music. This performance includes some special collaborators, such as Paul Dinello and David Razowsky, and a brief, albeit touching, intro by Steve Carell. (Colbert was Carell's understudy while at the troupe.) Splitsider dug up the 1994 clip today as part of its weekly Second City archive series. Maybe watching the absurd medley will tide you over till Colbert's TV return; if not, it should at least make you smile because the whole thing's simultaneously hilarious and bittersweet.

Before they were famous, before they were famous to only people in the know, and before they were even "those guys," Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert performed at Chicago's Second City. (The slightly younger Colbert was Carell's understudy.) Here is a clip of the two them with Paul Dinello (current Colbert Report writer and Strangers With Candy co-creator) and David Razowsky singing "The Obvious Song." The clip, which comes from the Second City show Take Me Out to the Balkans, was unearthed by Splitsider, as part of its weekly Second City Archives feature. It's wonderful. If only they were also nauseated by food.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. Stop rolling your eyes because we're ripping off The Outer Limits.
You are seeing that picture correctly: hardcore conservative TV guy Stephen Colbert is totally Frenching a guy. This probably begs a key question: why? Is this a screenshot from one of Glenn Beck's secret dreams? Is he trying to breathe life back into a man who has passed out while standing? Is this his way of destroying the possibility of gay marriage by participating in it?
It's actually part of a Second City show in Chicago. Alum Colbert, pictured here with actor Dave Razowsky, appeared at the famed theater over the weekend to celebrate the theater's 50th anniversary along with fellow alumni Steve Carrell, Bonnie Hunt and Harold Ramis. It is not known if Colbert kissed them too.
