It may have taken 11 years for Hollywood to deliver a fifth Scream movie, but 2022’s soft reboot took off its black gloves and butchered the competition via Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s genre-defining requel. And now it’s “New York, new rules” for Scream 6, as the previous film’s surviving crop of tormented teens leaves Woodsboro for the Big Apple.
Scream 6 is poised to be one of 2023’s biggest horrors, and it’s already honored its history with a brilliant marketing poster which retraced the past 27 years of spills and kills. Now the first full trailer confirms the next chapter will go back to the start of the slasher series. If you were watching the trailer closely, you might’ve noticed that Scream 6 homages the franchise’s most iconic kill.

2022 has been quite the year for fans of the beloved Scream franchise. It hosted the first theatrical release in the series since the fourth installment back in 2011. It also allowed us to revisit our favorite fabled town of Woodsboro. Meeting wonderful new characters like Mindy, Chad, and the Carpenter sisters – while catching up with the horror genre’s most esteemed trinity: Gale, Dewey, and Sidney.
Scream 2022 was not only a love letter to the late Master of Horror, Wes Craven, and the genre he’s left such a legendary mark on – but of the stand-out slasher series that changed the foundation of horror in the mid-to-late nineties.
To no surprise, audiences reciprocated the affection of the cast and crew as the film was widely enjoyed and celebrated by the horror community. The outpour of love and support from fans was a clear indicator that the Scream franchise was in...

Hayden Panettiere is ready to “Scream” once more.
Spyglass Entertainment and Paramount Pictures said Wednesday that Panettiere will reprise the role of Kirby Reed, a part that she previously brought to life in 2011’s Wes Craven-directed “Scream 4.” She’ll be joining cast members from the sixth installment (just called “Scream”), which was released earlier this year to solid box office and a warm critical reception. They include Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega and Jasmin Savoy-Brown. It’s unclear if legacy players Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox will be back.
Reed was the best friend of Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts), Sidney’s cousin and – spoiler alert for a 10-year-old movie! – one of the Ghostface killers (she was jealous of all the attention Sidney got from the original murders).
What’s interesting is that the filmmakers behind this year’s “Scream” wanted Panettiere back for the sequel and even...

The “Scream” franchise wasn’t just a series of slasher movies, it was also a collection of murder mysteries as the audience tried to suss out who kept donning the iconic Ghostface costume to hack away at new groups of teens and coeds. Of course, after several films, trying to keep the killer reveal fresh and exciting was a challenge. How do you top the last psycho and their motive? As a result, the plots often tied themselves in knots coming up with novel schemes, sometimes to a fault. Below, I’ve ranked the “Scream” movie killers from worst to best. Do you agree with my rankings?
The original 1996 film was groundbreaking in its deconstruction of the horror genre. More broadly, it popularized all of pop culture commenting on itself as a group of teenagers found themselves in a slasher movie while already familiar with the tropes and cliches of slasher movies.

Before there was Madison Montgomery or Chanel Oberlin or Jill Roberts (where my Scream 4 stans at?!) or whoever the hell she's playing in the forthcoming American Horror Story: 1984, there was Addie Singer. As the central character in Nickelodeon's Unfabulous, the network's quasi-answer to rival Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, Addie was, as the title of the tween comedy might suggest, an average middle schooler who liked to write songs about about her life. The character, whom audiences first met 15 years ago on September 12, 2004, was also the role that would introduce Emma Roberts, a plucky young actress with a familiar last name and an insanely famous aunt, to the world. While...
