- "Mr. Five by Five" is a 1944 popular song by Don Raye and Gene de Paul that celebrates the heavyset Rushing, "Mr. Five by Five" himself, who was the featured vocalist of Count Basie and His Orchestra from 1935 to 1948. The song was introduced in the Universal Pictures films Behind the Eight Ball (1942) and Who Done It? (1942). Ella Mae Morse with Freddie Slack's Orchestra had a hit recording with the song in 1942 (Capitol 115), as did Harry James and His Orchestra on the Columbia label that year.
