The final game in the Kirby video games’ series, Kirby Air Ride, wasn’t exactly a fan favorite but somehow managed to become a commercial success. Mixed reception from the critics didn’t affect the sales, as the figure went on to 1.2 million copies sold across the globe.
Although it failed to touch the gamers’ hearts, there could’ve been a feature that may have changed things. In all probability, players might have experienced an immersive Kirby world, and the game’s critical reception would’ve been shifted from mixed to positive. However, that’s a story in the past, but players will be left longing for the feature they were robbed of.

A new short trailer for The Book of Boba Fett reveals a connection to Star Wars: Battlefront, bringing a specific location to life in live-action.
“Eagle-eyed Redditor u/yunggravyintern noticed a huge reveal within the grounds of Jabba’s palace. The palace itself isn’t new. We know from The Mandalorian that Boba and Fennec take over Jabba’s entire operation. But Jabba’s hangar, the star of a map in the seminal Star Wars game Star Wars: Battlefront, is faithfully recreated in the teaser.”

After much anticipation, Nintendo has finally revealed that the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter is…Steve…from Minecraft.
*cough*
Well, it feels fair to say that we didn’t hear many fans begging for Steve (from Minecraft) to be added to the game. Leading up to the reveal, some of the top requests we heard were Crash Bandicoot, Geno from Super Mario RPG, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Steve wasn’t exactly a chart-topper. As such, there are currently man Smash fans voicing their displeasure across the internet.
We should also mention that Steve will be joined by his friends Alex, Zombie, and Enderman when this update is released at a currently unknown time. It sounds like those extra characters will actually just be mirrors of Steve (whose previous work includes Minecraft), but that information alone doesn’t really leave us much to work with considering that Steve’s...

Super Smash Bros.' director explains why there are so many Fire Emblem characters in the game.
If you think there are too many Fire Emblem characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you'll be happy to know that series director Masahiro Sakurai agrees with you.
"There are too many Fire Emblem characters," says Sakurai in a recent issue of Famitsu. "And there are too many sword characters. I, too, understand. However, these things are already decided, so we move forward. The things I should be thinking about are elsewhere."
Sakurai elaborates on that last part of the statement by saying that he doesn't "choose the fighters based on my own preference, that's for Nintendo to bring in." As far as why Nintendo may have pushed for another Fire Emblem character to be added to the game, Sakurai notes that it may have come down to timing.

Another Fire Emblem characters is added to Super Smash Bros. as Byleth joins the fight.
Yet another Fire Emblem character joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster as Nintendo has confirmed that Byleth will soon be added to the game on January 28.
Byleth was a featured player in Fire Emblem: Three Houses (one of our favorite games of 2019) and joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster as something of a surprise addition. Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai says he worked on the character in secret, but there's a very good chance that he's just joking. In any case, the addition of this character wraps up the previously promised Fighter Pass Dlc that has added characters such as Banjo-Kazooie to the title. Those who didn't purchase that pass can purchase Byleth individually for $6.
As Sakurai notes, though, Nintendo intends to add six more Dlc fighters to the game in the future.

Super Smash Bros.' creator says that a Fatal Fury character didn't appear in the game because it's for "good boys and girls."
Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai caused a bit of a stir today when he suggested that Fatal Fury star Mai Shiranui may be too sexy to be a Dlc character.
“You may have noticed that a very important character from the Fatal Fury series was not included," said Sakurai during a recent livestream. "Yes, Mai Shiranui. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is for good boys and girls of many different ages so we decided not to feature her, please forgive us.”
Sakurai's response is partially based on the recently released Smash Bros. Dlc that added Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard to the game. Various assets included as part of Boagard's addition to the game see a number of fighters from the Snk universe make cameo appearances.

Ever wondered why GoldenEye 007's James Bond doesn't feature in Super Smash Bros. games? Here's your answer...
Part of the enduring appeal of the Super Smash Bros. series is the chance to pit iconic gaming characters against each other. But James Bond, despite his storied history on Nintendo consoles, has yet to make an appearance in the fighting franchise.
GoldenEye 007 on N64, in particular, is considered to be a classic in Nintendo's back-catalog. Many nights have been spent among friends, running frantically around a map, slapping enemies as a pixelated approximation of Pierce Brosnan's James Bond and the other characters from Martin Campbell's 1995 007 flick.
The idea of dropping Brosnan's Bond into a battle with Mario, Pikachu, and all the rest is an absolute doozie, so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that the concept has actually been considered by Nintendo. The suggestion...

“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” is expanding its collection of new and returning stages by adding a selection of new areas to fight in, bringing the official total up to 103.
During Wednesday’s “Smash”-centric Nintendo Direct, game director Masahiro Sakurai was on hand to discuss the new additions to the game, mentioning that the new selection of stages will be arranged in order of their debut in the “Super Smash Bros.” series. You’ll find plenty of new places to brawl, like Dracula’s Castle of “Castlevania” fame, New Donk City Hall from the whimsical “Super Mario Odyssey,” Magicant from “Earthbound,” Gamer W inspired by “WarioWare,” and more.
While there are over 100 unique stages to choose from, the total boosts itself beyond 300 when you factor in the popular Battlefield and Omega forms of each stage as well. With eight-player battle support for each fight, there’s a battleground appropriate for any scuffle.

The Nintendo “Seal of Quality” is supposed to assure customers that the game they’re looking at was definitely not made by a team of shaved gorillas in the span of an afternoon. However, as anyone who played Superman 64 will tell you, that doesn’t actually count for much. Games bearing Nintendo’s own logo always fare better when it comes to minimum quality, but with a company this prolific, that minimum quality is going to be encountered more often than one would hope. This is particularly true of under-the-radar releases, such as Dillon’s Dead-Heat Breakers – a game with so little notability that I didn’t even know it was the third game in a series until I looked it up.
The name Masahiro Sakurai is absent from the credits of Dead-Heart Breakers, which seems conspicuous, because the games I find it most comparable to are Kirby Air Ride and Kid Icarus: Uprising.

E3 2015: Masahiro Sakurai’s Super Smash Bros. presentation is a smashing success despite early leaks
Nintendo has big plans for E3 2015, and it began with Masahiro Sakurai’s special video presentation for Super Smash Bros. Unfortunately, footage showcasing Ryu from Street Fighter and Roy from the Fire Emblem series as playable characters in the game was leaked yesterday, taking a bit of the fun out of the presentation that streamed live earlier today. The leak was a result of hackers exploiting a Japanese update for the games that went up earlier than expected. Either way, the special video presentation unveiled a smashing amount of new content for the games. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect.
Ryu from Street Fighter®: For the first time in Super Smash Bros. history, a character from the fighting game series Street Fighter® joins the battle. Iconic character Ryu, whose look in the game is based on Street Fighter II®, brings a new fighting style and feel to Super Smash Bros.

Kirby has had a long, interesting life as Nintendo's favorite little pink hero. Here's a look back at the character's strange history...
The Wii U finally got a burst of positive momentum in 2014'a second half with games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros, giving the beleaguered console a much needed sales boost. Now, with a number of major titles scattered throughout the 2015 release calendar, a lot of Nintendo fans are hoping that this is the year that the company fully capitalises on the Wii U's untapped potential.
To that end, Nintendo is keeping things going in the right direction with Kirby And The Rainbow Curse, out now in the Us and due for release later this year in Europe as Kirby And The Rainbow Paintbrush.
Kirby has his fans for sure, but the character doesn't seem to spark the same passion among Nintendo enthusiasts as the company's other flagship franchises.

There are several design changes that make Super Mario Bros. 2 so different from its predecessor, starting with the pick-up and throw gameplay of this sequel. The second difference is the elimination of the timer. Since there is no timer on any of the levels, you are no longer racing to the end, and therefore you have plenty of time to fully explore each and every level. In addition, players can travel backwards in a level if needed. However the biggest change and improvement...

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator and director behind Super Smash Bros., has stated that the recently-released Wii U version of the game may be his final entry into the series.
In an interview with Game Informer, the prestigious developer admitted that while another installment in the mascot brawler is almost inevitable, he himself may step down as director.
I can’t positively declare there won’t be [another Smash Bros. game], with both Melee and Brawl, I made those games with the thought that there wouldn’t be any more sequels. Thus, I really can’t deny the chance for another. However, as for myself, I don’t think there will be.
Our intention [with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U] was to provide extra merits to the game which go far beyond the sale price. In terms of scope, and in terms of sheer number of characters, we went beyond our limits long ago. You could say that all the effort...

Nintendo has revealed that it currently has no plans to release paid Dlc for the recently-released Super Smash Bros. Wii U, and it still contemplating whether or not to create any additional content in the first place.
Speaking to VideoGamer, longtime series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that The Big N made a concerted effort to include every available character and stage in the final build, and that the imminent MewTwo add-on is merely an “experiment,” rather than a sign of what’s to come.
“I understand that Dlc could add a lot to the appeal of Smash Bros., and I appreciate that a major part of the excitement for these games come from which characters will appear in the roster, so I think fans could really enjoy Dlc that could keep this excitement going.

Following a string of rumours regarding exclusive content, Nintendo has announced plans to host a special Nintendo Direct focusing on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which is due to take place on Thursday, October 23rd.
Promising “50 Must-See Things,” the company has scheduled the event for 3pm Pt / 6pm Et / 11pm GMT — which you can view from the comfort of your home via the Nintendo Direct website — and plans to unveil all-new information for the hotly-anticipated brawler.
Just last week, Super Smash Bros.’ long-time creative director, Masahiro Sakurai, took to Miiverse in order to tease two alleged modes for the Wii U version of the game, which appear to be available within the single-player segment. It’s unclear what exactly those purported console-exclusive features are, but it seems the game modes will resemble those found within New Super Smash Bros. Wii, such as Gold Rush.

Masahiro Sakurai, creative director behind Super Smash Bros., took to Miiverse today to post a couple of interesting teases that hints at two exclusive modes that are on their way to the Wii U version of the game.
The image, which you can feast your eyes on above, seems to point towards a pair of nebulous modes located within Super Smash Bros.’ single-player. With the second word obscured in each title, all we have to go on is ‘Master’ and ‘Crazy,’ though we assume that these Wii U-exclusive game modes will be similar to those found in New Super Smash Bros. Wii — such as Gold Rush, for instance.
Of course, we can’t be 100% sure until Sakurai-san releases further information, be it through Miiverse or directly via press release. Nonetheless, we’ll keep you right up-to-date with all the news for Nintendo’s upcoming brawler as it appears.

Miniaturizing the indomitable Super Smash Bros. brand is no small task, and were it not for Nintendo’s sterling reputation with first party titles made for its own hardware, I’d be hard pressed to believe it could be properly done. After all, disappointment at a game’s translation to mobile is nothing new. Ever play Ssx Tricky on the Gba? I’m pretty sure my younger self cried for weeks.
Instead, what Masahiro Sakurai and Sora Ltd. have managed to pull off (with a little help from Namco Bandai) on 3Ds is nothing short of remarkable, and though I do think there’s still room for the Wii U version when it hits later this holiday season, Super Smash Bros. If you’re feeling let down by the fact that upcoming Super Smash Bros. entries on Wii U and 3Ds conspicuously left out the Ice Climbers, then rest assured knowing that it’s merely because the series isn’t popular and wasn’t prioritized. Er, well, I guess that probably doesn’t make you feel better, does it Unfortunately, it is the official explanation for their absence according to series director Masahiro Sakurai.
Commenting on the situation via his weekly Famitsu column, Sakurai explained that though the Ice Climbers were up and running in the Wii U version of the game, getting them to run smoothly on 3Ds proved technically challenging. Whether he was referring to performance, frame-rate, or something else isn’t entirely clear, but his remarks basically state that the wintry duo were ultimately dropped due to a lack of prioritization for the Ice Climbers series. For those of us that grew up in the 90s, “Ba-Ding!” is probably one of the most instantly recognisable sounds there is. Whether it was catching Pokémon or traversing across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda, that familiar chime undoubtedly signalled the start of a great pixelated adventure.

In the action-packed three minute trailer, Robin and Lucina square off against the returning Captain Falcon. The video provides a glimpse of each character’s powers, as Robin can cast an assortment of spells from a tome, as well as have access to his/her sword. Lucina is a little more straight-forward, though, and appears to be more of a brawler.
Fellow Fire Emblem: Awakening character Chrom also appears in the trailer, but it is unknown whether or not he will actually be playable in Super Smash Bros. or will only appear as an assist character.

Though the biggest Super Smash Bros.-related news to come out of the first day of E3 was the chain of character confirmations (Miis, Palutena, and Pac-Man), there were a lot of other interesting announcements and details provided by series director Masahiro Sakurai during a conference later in the evening.
To start, Sakurai went into details regarding the new feature of being able to customize each character’s individual moves. Each of the four special moves activated by pressing B on the controller, or B while pressing the joystick up, down or to the side, will have three unique variants to choose from. The example provided was being able to pick between Mario’s standard bouncing fireball, a quicker and straighter fireball, or a slower but more powerful fireball.

Though precise details on Lucario are currently under wraps, the corresponding daily Miiverse post from director Masahiro Sakurai did mention that, “We’ve increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with,” possibly indicating that Lucario will be able to dish out stronger attacks the more damage it takes itself.
Unlike many previous character announcements, such as Dedede coinciding with the Japanese launch of Kirby Triple Deluxe, Lucario’s...

It’s not much to go by, but we now have an actual screenshot from what appears to be the single player mode in Super Smash Bros. for 3Ds. The image appeared on series director Masahiro Sakurai’s Miiverse page, where he asks simply, “Where am I……??”
Despite the resemblance, Sakurai reminds us almost immediately that the upcoming game does not feature a single player experience akin to The Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl:
To be clear, the new Super Smash Bros. games do not feature a story mode like The Subspace Emissary.
Fair enough, Sakurai, but what exactly is this image from then? It could very well be that Sakurai mentioned Subspace Emissary to reiterate that the upcoming games will not feature pre-rendered cutscenes ala previous Smash Bros. entries. As a matter of fact, the image is reminiscent of the Adventure Mode from Super Smash Bros. Melee...

Masahiro Sakurai, creator and head developer of the Super Smash Bros. series, announced today via his daily Miiverse post and screenshot that the upcoming fourth entry in the series, currently in development for both the Wii U and the 3Ds, will include fan-favorite character Ashley from the WarioWare franchise, as a non-playable Assist Trophy for use in battle.
If you’re unfamiliar with the idea of Assist Trophies, which were originally introduced in the Wii’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, they are one of the randomly spawning items players can pick up and use on the battlefield, and summon a random Nintendo character to help out whoever activated them.
Ashley is the third character from the WarioWare series to receive representation in a Super Smash Bros. game, as twin ninjas Kat & Ana were also available as a single Assist Trophy in Brawl. What exactly she will do when summoned remains unclear,...

Things have been getting increasingly busy with character announcements for Nintendo’s upcoming fourth Super Smash Bros. game, currently scheduled for release sometime this year on both the Wii U and 3Ds. Last month brought confirmation of both returning fighter Princess Zelda and newcomers Rosalina & Luma. Now, we can add another familiar face to the roster, as King Dedede, a longtime villain in the Kirby series, has been announced to be making his return in both versions of the game.
The pompous penguin, who originally made his series debut in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will continue to wield his trademark mallet, and if the promotional screenshots showcasing the character below are any indication, he will also be providing some hilarious facial expressions. Game director Masahiro Sakurai also confirmed on the game’s official Miiverse account that Dedede’s confirmation is meant to coincide with the Japanese launch of Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3Ds.

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Smash Bros. franchise, revealed today that his team has decided to add a submachine gun item to Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3Ds. There is, however, a slight twist to the new projectile weapon that differentiates it from the standard Smg in your favorite shooter — the gun is actually a miniaturized submarine from Steel Diver.
Sakurai revealed the “cute” little Super Smash Bros. sub gun on Nintendo’s Miiverse, confirming that it is indeed from the 3Ds game Steel Diver. Additionally, he noted that the item works by launching torpedoes “that fly slowly at first” and then speed up as they approach their target.
Sadly, the above screenshot is the only asset that we currently have of the submarine gun, as Nintendo has not felt the need to release a new trailer of the upcoming fighter for several months. With Super Smash Bros.

Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed today, via a post on Nintendo’s Miiverse, that Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask will make an appearance in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii U and 3Ds.
The slightly disappointing angle to the news is that Sakurai also confirmed that Skull Kid is not a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. games, but will instead be an Assist Trophy. For those new to the series, this basically means that he will show up in matches from time to time as an item that can be grabbed and immediately used as a power up of sorts.
While Skull Kid is definitely a cool reveal, the fact that he is limited to an Assist Trophy puts a bit of a damper on my excitement level.
As for who will be playable in the game, well,...

While it will likely be several more years before we get a proper Super Mario Galaxy game on the Wii U, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has announced that we won’t have to wait nearly that long to see just how beautiful Galaxy planets will look like in HD.
In a recent Miiverse post, Sakurai revealed that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii U will have a level based on Mario Galaxy. The message reads in part:
“…A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics.”
Unfortunately, Sakurai did not reveal any another other details about the Mario Galaxy stage in Super Smash Bros., so we have no idea whether or not the game will do the right thing and let us annoy our opponents by doing nothing but running circles around the planet.
