Et caught up with the Oscar-winning rapper and actor during At&T’s Hello Lab Mentorship film event at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, California, last Friday, where he dished on helping "visionaries and artists be heard."
“I think one of my biggest rewards is to help other visionaries and artists be heard, to give them opportunities and platforms,” he told Et. “That’s been some of the most fulfilling things that I’ve been able to do in my life.”
At&T’s Hello Lab linked aspiring filmmakers Gabrielle Shepherd, Matthew Castellanos, Neil Paik, Sara Shaw, and Nefertiti Nguvbu with entertainment industry mentors including Common, Octavia Spencer, Dope director Rick Famuyima, Fruitvale producer Nina Yang Bongiovi and actress-director Desiree Akhavan.

Film Victoria has invested $350,000 on a telemovie based on the story of the two miners trapped in the Beaconsfield mine in 2006, produced by Southern Star Entertainment and set to air on Nine.
“Some of Victoria’s finest screen talent will bring this important Australian story to the screen, delivering jobs to Victoria’s screen sector. The Baillieu Government will support local production companies fostering talent and ideas and providing employment for local innovators,” said Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher.
Beaconsfield will be produced by John Edwards and Sarah Shaw, written by Julie McCrossin and directed by Glendyn Ivin.

Screen Australia today announced funding approval for 11 new projects, among the projects is Warp Films' Snowtown, a true-crime story about a teenager who finds his world threatened by both his loyalty for, and fear of, his newfound friend, John Bunting, Australia's most notorious serial killer. Snowtown marks the feature film directorial debut of Justin Kurzel, whose short film "Blue Tongue" screened at the 2005 Cannes International Film Festival. The film is written by Shaun Grant and will be produced by Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw. It is the first feature financed by Warp Films Australia, the local offshoot of UK production companies Warp Film and Warp X.
