One of the core tenets of good sci-fi is crafting a believable world, one that's easy to get lost in — but also one just as easy to navigate down the rabbit hole at the same time. Coherency is just as important as world-building. In fact, a good sci-fi story hinges on the collaboration of both. Writer-director Adam Sigel's film "Chariot" gives the beginnings of this partnership, but despite opening and closing sequences that serve as compelling bookends framing the context of a promising sci-fi world, it's everything in between that is complicated and messy — essentially negating, or at least severely diminishing, the...

The WGA West will host a panel discussion on April 30 with film and TV writers from Ukraine, whose lives and careers have been upended by the Russian invasion.
“They will discuss their work and their lives since the invasion,” the guild said in a communique to members, “as well as give their perspective on how the Revolution of Dignity that began in 2013 has transformed the entertainment industry of this former Soviet republic.”
Panelists for the discussion, which is open to guild members and a guest, include:
Natalya Vorozhbyt, whose Bad Roads was Ukraine’s Oscar entry for 2022 and Catching Kaidash, one of Ukraine’s highest-rated series in 2020. Olena Pshenychna, whose Lusia is a Ukrainian adaptation of Carol’s Second Act. Volodymyr Nagorny, whose Dzidzio Kontrabas is an award-winning comedy film. Larysa Martseva (Routes of Destiny).
The discussion will be co-moderated by WGA West board member Dailyn Rodriguez and WGA West member Adam Sigel.

Karl Williams, the longtime Paramount Pictures publicist who was integral in campaigns for the studio’s Transformers, Iron Man, Star Trek, Indiana Jones and other franchises, died Sunday of liver complications at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Il. He was 52.
For those like me who worked with Karl, he was a hysterically funny, good-guy, cinema savant and ultimate fanboy — a trailblazer in digital PR before any studio employed such experienced flacks in the current Twitter/YouTube/Facebook/Snapchat-obsessed promo era. For reporters, he was the face of the studio he worked with, notably Paramount, where he spent the bulk of his career. And for those who annually spent time with Karl at Burning Man, he was that groovy guy who ran camp.
Even when Karl was the assistant to a bigger PR exec, he had the answers and the access, whether it was getting you into a screening or possibly getting you into a premiere.

Steven Spielberg reaffirmed his interest in video games this year when he was caught playing with the PlayStation Move at E3. His non-"Boom Blox" plans in the world of game development, meanwhile, have been a bit more mysterious of late. A note recently spotted on a writer's résumé, however, may indicate that something is still going on behind the scenes.
A man named Adam Sigel has worked with EA L.A. as a "Consultant, Writer and Story Editor for the Untitled Steven Spielberg Video Game (Release Tba)," according to his credits posted on AdamSigel.com, where they were spotted by Superannuation.
In the murky worlds of unreleased entertainment projects, Hollywood and video games, it's entirely conceivable that this game has just washed away into outright cancellation or de facto cancellation, but with Kinect and Move launches still lingering months down the road, who knows? Perhaps the untitled game has...
