- First African American to win a World Championship in any significant professional wrestling organization. He defeated Big Van Vader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on August 2nd, 1992.
- In March of 2004 Ron Simmons was released by the WWE for reasons undisclosed. At the time he was considering retirement due to his health and age to become a backstage agent for the company. Interestingly enough, the firing came the same day as his on-screen character, Faarooq, being fired on television.
- Wrestled with "Hacksaw" Butch Reed as his tag team partner under the name of Doom. Originally they were masked and known as Doom #1 and Doom #2, being brought in by Woman (Nancy Daus-Sullivan) to take care of the Steiner Brothers. After Woman left them they were forced to unmask as per a match stipulation after losing to the Steiners. When the team obtained the managerial services of former Referee Theodore Long, Doom made a comeback, defeating the Steiner Brothers for the NWA World Tag Team titles. When WCW began withdrawing as a subsidiary from the NWA in 1991, Doom were recognized as the first WCW World Tag Team champions. They were the longest reigning WCW World Tag Team/NWA World Tag Team (Mid-Atlantic) Champions at 282 days.

- Simmons arrived in the WWF in 1996, and became Faarooq Asad under the guidance of Sunny. He feuded with Ahmed Johnson.
