At last count, there have been nine studio-sanctioned feature films to have been adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy novels.
"The Hobbit," the first book in the series, was published in 1937, while a follow-up trilogy called "Lord of the Rings" was published in 1954 and 1955. Tolkien was both a linguist and a pacifist, so the books tended to lean toward elaborately constructed fantasy languages as well as antiwar themes. The mythology of Middle-earth was so vast and complex, Tolkien also wrote a book called "The Silmarillion" in which deep-cut details from within the "Rings" universe were laid out in excruciating, mythological detail.
For many years, multiple filmmakers and producers attempted to adapt the first book, "The Hobbit" to film. According to Brian J. Robb's and Paul Simpson's 2013 book "Middle-earth Envisioned: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: On Screen, On Stage, and Beyond," Walt Disney had considered...

Steve McClaren watched alongside 470 fans as Newcastle United Under-21s drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers and new signing Ivan Toney made his debut for the club.
Toney played the entire match on Monday night at Whitley Park and shone alongside teammates Jamie Sterry, Liam Smith and Kyle Cameron, who also put in a sterling performances in front of McClaren, managing director Lee Charnley and assistant coach Paul Simpson.
It was Blackburn who took the lead after 21 minutes though when Rovers’ No 9 Anton Forrester tidily tucked home from six yards after Willem Forrester’s pin-point assist found him free in the box. But Newcastle fought hard to get back into the game and were granted their reward before half-time when Sterry – who had replaced the injured Adam Laidler – headed home after Liam Smith’s cross gifted the attack-minded defender a free-header that he confidently guided past Simon Eastwood.

If Steve McClaren and Lee Charnley’s presence at Newcastle United’s Benton training base for the Magpies’ Under-21 clash with Blackburn Rovers was a talking point, they were not the main attraction of the night.
Nor too were centre-back Mike Williamson, who watched on from the side of the pitch, Paul Dummett, or even first-team coach Paul Simpson.
In fact, although you would expect McClaren to attend as many Under-21 clashes as possible, there was the slight suspicion that the Magpies head coach made a point of arriving for this game in order to see one particular player in action – Newcastle’s fourth summer signing, Ivan Toney.

The arrival of Toney from Northampton Town happened somewhat under the radar – perhaps unsurprisingly given that the Magpies have spent close to £35 million collectively on first-teamers Aleksandar Mitrovic, Georginio Wijnaldum and Chancel Mbemba – but his move to Tyneside is also intriguing.

Newcastle United assistant coach, Paul Simpson has stated that Paul Dummett and Remy Cabella could be back to fitness in the next couple of weeks and confirmed that Vurnon Anita is fit to play against Swansea this weekend.
The pair have been injured since the beginning of pre-season and are not expected to play against Swansea City on Saturday or against Manchester United the following week.
Cabella, has been suffering with a thigh injury and Dummett has a hamstring problem that reoccurred while the defender was on international duty with Wales.
Both players are crucial to the Magpies squad and their first-team experience gives Steve McClaren further options to explore.
