Horror-comedy film The Menu may be a little brutal to watch for some, but for those who work in the industry like recent Hell’s Kitchen winner Alex Belew, the film had plenty of moments that had him laughing, not to mention nodding in agreement.
Films like The Menu and the FX series The Bear both center on restaurants and the head chef, but each takes an entirely different turn. While The Bear and The Menu reflect on the grueling and intense aspects of cheffing, The Menu is a film about how famed Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) murders his patrons.
Murder aside, Belew said even the absurdity of The Menu had some pretty realistic moments that had him rolling, while the theater was hauntingly quiet. “With The Menu, outside of the absurdity of it, I found myself laughing so much throughout that because every chef has thought about that with customers,...

Fox‘s Hell’s Kitchen: Battle of the Ages winner Alex Belew may have been favored to win by the fanbase, but Belew had his doubts during the grueling competition.
“The first couple of weeks I really was just trying to survive day to day,” Belew told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “The first plan was just don’t go home first because that would suck.” But then he felt a shift as he dominated challenge after challenge, taking on the wing competition and making the perfect lobster.
“Watching it kind of unfold on T.V., I’m like, Who is that guy?” he wondered, describing how watching himself on TV didn’t match what he was feeling during the Hell’s Kitchen experience.

On an explosive Hell’s Kitchen: Battle of the Ages two-hour season finale on Fox, the final three chefs create their own menus for Hell’s Kitchen, with each round of dishes judged by five incredible world-renowned chefs where one will be eliminated.
But then, previously eliminated chefs return to help the final two as they go head-to-head for the last time in Hell’s Kitchen. Only one chef will earn the Head Chef position at Hell’s Kitchen in Atlantic City, the 250,000 cash prize, and the coveted title in the all-new, two-hour “A Finale for the Ages, Part 1/A Finale for the Ages, Part 2” season finale of Hell’s Kitchen airing Thursday, Feb. 9 (8:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.
So who comes in to act as sous chef and are the remaining chefs happy – or not – with who will be in the kitchen with them?

John Boorman’s critical and commercial smash may have leaned on grotesque stereotypes but it remains a fiercely thrilling piece of exploitation
Two sounds leap to mind at the mere mention of Deliverance. The first is the tuneful bluegrass plink of Arthur Smith’s Dueling Banjos, performed by the eponymous instrument and an acoustic guitar harmonizing with it. The second, much less pleasant sound is the high, pained yelp of Ned Beatty, squealing like a pig to appease the depraved stranger violating him. So crucial are both to the enduring power of John Boorman’s 1972 nightmare in the boonies that the first can’t help but evoke the second: five decades later, that banjo tune still sounds like a warning – an omen of danger ahead, especially the kind that lies off the beaten path, south of the Mason-Dixon.
It’s a version of America nearly extinct, the more wild and...

While there'll always be a place for down-the-line observational stand-up, there are thankfully also some comics doing stranger stuff at the fringes.
From the mid-1990s on, Simon Munnery has intrigued and innovated. Ahead of his spot on Stewart Lee's The Alternative Comedy Experience, Digital Spy got on the phone with Simon to talk singing Kierkegaard, "fylm" and whether or not we'll ever get Attention Scum! on DVD.
Asked about The Alternative Comedy Experience, Munnery said: "It's a different selection of acts - it's acts you don't see on Michael McIntyre's Roadshow or Live at the Apollo.
"It's perhaps less mainstream acts, a bit more quirky, a bit more interesting."
Of almost half the comics on the show being women, he added: "There are a lot of very good women comics and quite a lot of them are on this.
"There just are quite a lot of good...

There's an engaging daftness about Simon Sprackling's adaptation of Chris England's 2003 rugby World Cup final yarn
Maybe you need to be a rugby fan to enjoy this film fully, but there's a cheerful, good-natured daftness here that anyone can understand. It is directed by Simon Sprackling and scripted by Chris England – a variation on a theme England established in 1991 with the stage play he co-wrote with Arthur Smith, An Evening With Gary Lineker. But that Italia 90-themed football drama had an obvious pall of sadness. This is something different. A ragtag bunch of fans show up at their local rugby club at breakfast-time on 22 November 2003 to watch the nailbiting World Cup final between England and Australia on the clubhouse TV. Among those present is Jake (George MacKay), a talented young amateur player who is convinced he has a supernatural power to help Jonny Wilkinson's kicking. Whenever Wilkinson...
