Served with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, 2nd Brigade, 1st Canadian Infantry Division, during World War II.
Won the Victoria Cross for his single-handed fight against a German tank attack at the crossing of the Savio River in Italy; October 21st, 1944.
Last surviving Canadian winner of the Victoria Cross. (July, 2004)
