She was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's Honours List for her services to dance.
She started giving dance lessons in air raid shelters during WWII, and continued to teach until age 93. After the war, she taught dance classes in village halls around Kent.
She taught Prince Rainier and Princess Grace to dance, and choreographed a dance sequence, "Your Mother Should Know", for the Beatles. She taught ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev how to tango.
