Timing is everything. On April 29, 2024, Den of Geek published an article breaking down the mysteries of the supposed “lost” second pilot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We put forth that this long rumored version of the first episode, “Day of the Dumpster,” glimpsed in convention footage, didn’t exist as most fans assumed. That, in fact, the aired version was mostly made of that supposedly “lost footage.” End of the discussion, right?
Just under a week later, Adrian Carr, director of “Day of the Dumpster” and other early episodes of Power Rangers, released his original edit of that installment that revealed some of our analysis was correct but others were blown out of the water by new revelations. For instance, the earthquake scene when the Rangers teleport for the first time? Different in this version, contrary to what we suspected.
(For those wondering, Carr confirmed his upload had nothing to do with our earlier article.

In the world of television, a “pilot” episode is the one chance you have to make or break your show getting to air. If it doesn’t make the cut, it’s consigned to the film vault of history, never to be seen. It’s extremely unheard of for a franchise to get two pilots. Star Trek: The Original Series being one of those rare second chances.
Bafflingly it’s been assumed for years that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had three pilots. As Tony Oliver, co-writer and developer of the Power Rangers pilot, first revealed at Power Morphicon in 2007, “the pilot episode, which turned into the first episode [“Day of the Dumpster”], they actually did three times.”
That means they shot three separate pilot episodes, right? Well, yes, but also no. It’s very complicated so we did the biggest deep dive research on the Power Rangers pilot ever. What we uncovered changes everything...

Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner who has largely avoided the public eye since his career imploded in the early days of the #MeToo era, is making moves to venture back into the public space.
The actor has booked his first comic book convention appearance, set for Feb. 16-18 at Mad Monster, the con held in Concord, North Carolina. Organizers announced Wednesday that he will be among the guests signing autographs and posing for photos. He is also in business with the company Everest Autographs, which is arranging for autograph purchases for those not attending the event in person.
Spacey won Oscars for The Usual Suspects (1995), the cult crime drama that resonates with corners of the comic con crowd, and for American Beauty (1999). "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is everything fans could have hoped for in a celebration of 30 years of "Power Rangers." This is a special that is full of fanservice, Easter eggs from even the deepest of deep cuts from across "Power Rangers" lore, and all sorts of cheesy jokes and cool martial arts moves — including Hip-Hop kido.
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" takes place after the death of one of the Rangers, with the rest mourning a loss of one of their own as Rita Repulsa returns in a new robot body to wreak chaos across the globe. Meanwhile, a new Ranger rises to take the mantle of the old generation, because Power Rangers are forever.
This is a special full of cool moments and loving homages to the franchise, including a rather emotional coda that pays tribute to two fallen rangers, Jason David Frank and Thuy Trang.

Back in January fans of Power Rangers learned through an IMDb post that Simon Bennett, director of many Ninja Steel and Beast Morphers episodes and producer of several well-known New Zealand dramas, had “taken over the reins as EP (executive producer) of Hasbro’s famed Power Rangers TV series.” He later stated that he was also the showrunner as well.
At the time this left fans a bit confused since Chip Lynn, who’d worked on the show back in the 90’s and returned in 2015 for Dino Charge, was the executive producer. While TV shows having two executive producers isn’t uncommon the whole situation was further muddled by comments from former Power Rangers actor Austin St. John. Saban Entertainment has debunked a rumor from earlier this week and confirmed that the upcoming "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" cinematic reboot will also use the same names as the original heroes from the popular 1990s TV series - Jason. Kimberly. Zack. Billy. Trini.
Those were the names of the most popular team of Power Rangers who were portrayed by Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, Walter Jones, David Yost, & Amy Jo Johnson in the classic series. The report earlier this week indicated the new set of Rangers would be brand new characters with different names, but the film's official Twitter account has debunked that.
Dacre Montgomery (Jason The Red Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly The Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack The Black Ranger), Rj Cyler (Billy The Blue Ranger) and Becky Gomez (Trini The Yellow Ranger) will star as the new team, and the confirmation also seems to indicate the film will...

Jason. Kimberly. Zack. Billy. Trini. For anyone even remotely familiar with the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series, those five names will certainly ring a bell as those were the names of the most popular team of Power Rangers, the original "teenagers with attitudes," who were portrayed by Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, Walter Jones, David Yost, & Amy Jo Johnson. Throughout its many iterations, no subsequent series has ever managed to recapture the mass hysteria caused by the original '90s series and likely never will. It was long-rumored that Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers film reboot would also utilize those same names, however, ever since a recent report suggested the new set of Rangers would be brand new characters with completely different names, there's been quite a bit of confusion amongst fans and critics alike... well, up until now, that is! In a tweet sent yesterday afternoon, the official...

"You didn't think I was gonna let you do this without the original Red Ranger, did you?" In a surprising turn of events, Lionsgate & Saban Entertainment have just announced that newcomer Dacre Montgomery will be the one who leads the new generation of Power Rangers into battle as Jason Lee Scott a.k.a. the Red Ranger in the upcoming Dean Israelite-directed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot. He'll likely harness the "Tyrannosaurus" dinozord powers, which were previously used by original series star Austin St. John. Montgomery has presumably beaten out the likes of K.J. Apa (Shortland Street), Mitchell Hope (The Descendants), and Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles), who were all slightly more established young talents rumored to be up for the part. He now joins Naomi Scott (The Martian), who was previously announced as the Pink Ranger. The new Jason, like all of the other Rangers, will be an updated version of the original,...

With an early 2017 release date, it was only a matter of time before production kicked off on Lionsgate's upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot and now, thanks to YVRShoots, we know exactly when the film should officially commence. The site is reporting that the Dean Israelite-directed film, which has a script from X-Men: First Class & Thor scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz, is expected to begin filming in Vancouver on January 18th and then wrap sometime around April 12th. The co-production between Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment will shoot under the working title "Shirt." The cast has yet-to-be finalized, but based on this latest report, it's probably a safe bet to assume that we'll start hearing about which five young actors will portray the iconic Rangers much sooner than later. The original '90s phenomenon starred Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, David Yost, Amy Jo Johnson, & Walter Jones as the...

Following its debut in 1993, Saban's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers quickly became a global phenomenon and after 22 years and numerous cast changes, the Rangers are still kicking - recently launching the twenty-second season of the long-running franchise. The original series starred Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, Walter Jones, Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost as the five teenagers with attitudes that were chosen by Zordon and Alpha 5 to defend the Earth as the Power Rangers. Director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) recently sat down with IGN to share a progress update on Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers reboot and while he obviously doesn't reveal anything about the film's plot or how it potentially ties into the original 1993 series, he does seem genuinely excited about getting started on the upcoming project. He describes an early draft of the script as "mature but still playful" and says the series is being updated in...

Oh sheesh y'all, twas an ending!
You might want to grab some chicken nuggets because if you haven't heard, after eight years of glorious banter, Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld's beloved web series Jake and Amir is coming to an end.
The comedy duo who created and star in CollegeHumor's longest-running series stopped by ETonline to talk ending the series, chicken nuggets, facial hair, and what’s coming next.
"Eight years seems good because it's like high school and college all rolled into one," Amir told ETonline of ending the series. "Life sort of happens in four year chunks -- so we did two four-year terms of Jake and Amir, now let's see what we do. If we fail this four years, we'll just come crawling back to the Internet."

It’s morphin' time!
It's been 22 years since we first heard the iconic phrase uttered by Red Ranger Jason Lee Scott on the beloved hit '90s series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers -- but it never gets old!
ETonline caught up with the leader of the original leader of the pack, Austin St. John, to chat all things Power Rangers and get the scoop on his exciting new project that will bring him back to Hollywood after a nearly 20-year hiatus.
When St. John signed on for the children's series in 1993 at just 17 years old, no one could have guessed the show would take off like it did.
“Thousands of people tried out for the show. It was an open cattle call and people just came in from everywhere and I was convinced there was not a chance in you-know-what I was ever going to get anywhere near this…and I was wrong,” St. John told...

Following the end of the highly successful Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, many of the original Rangers distanced themselves from the show due to a variety of behind-the-scenes issues. However, thanks in large part to a immense and loving fanbase, many of the original Rangers have returned to the public eye over the past 2-3 years. Several original Rangers, including the original Red Ranger Austin St. John, the original Blue Ranger David Yost, and the original Black Ranger Walter Jones, have begun attending conventions where they are consistently amongst the show's most popular guests. Additionally, with the announcement of a new movie arriving in 2016, the Rangers' popularity has seen a huge uptick in recent months. All five living original Rangers have expressed interest in appearing in some capacity. Even though she's not a prominent figure on the convention scene, Amy Jo Johnson, who played the original Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart, has...

It’s happened: the Power Rangers are heading back to the movies. And with luck, this time around Ivan Ooze won’t be anywhere within a twelve-mile radius of the theater.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers remains one of the last glorious bastions of my childhood. Somewhere deep in my bedroom back home, there’s probably at least one expensive action figure (I got the kind that morph, because I was spoiled) hiding away. Although the brand has survived dozens of tinkerings and reboots over the years (Jungle Fury? Really?), the original three-season series is unsullied — in my mind, at least.

Twenty years ago a bizarre, action-packed kids series called Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers premiered and garnered a fast, rabid following. For the 12-and-under set, the show served as a bridge between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Saved By the Bell: Yes, there were cartoonish fight scenes and giant robot villains, but the show also exalted cool teenagers and made you feel like part of their Angel Grove-protecting posse. You could feel like a kid and a tolerable preteen among their ranks.
If you didn’t watch Power Rangers from at least ’93-’95, you were nothing to me. I got my Power Rangers action figures from the soon-to-be-bankrupted Venture department stores in the Midwest, and I became obsessed with dinosaurs because of the Power Rangers “roll call” (“Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber-toothed tiger! Tyrannosaurus!”), and not because of Jurassic Park. That’s what separates kids born in 1981 from kids born in 1986, Fyi.

It's morphin' time! Twenty years ago today, on August 28, 1993, "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" premiered.
The kids show featured five teens (later six when the Green/White Ranger was added) being called upon to protect the world from Rita Repulsa. It originally starred Austin St. John as Jason Lee Scott, Thuy Trang as Trini Kwan, Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly Hart, David Yost as Billy Cranston, Walter Emanuel Jones as Zack Taylor and Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver.
When they transformed into the Power Rangers, the teens got a variety of weapons, including giant machines called Zords.
The Power Rangers fought a variety of monsters, some of them voiced by some of today's hottest TV stars, including "Breaking Bad" leading man Bryan Cranston. His last name was also used to name the Blue Ranger.

2013 marks the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers. I grew up with the teenage superheroes from Angel Grove and have been reliving my childhood by rewatching the series on Netflix. Last month, I started a year long series of articles celebrating the anniversary with 5 Power Ranger Rip-Offs You Probably Forgot. This month, I have delved into the massive Power Ranger archives to deliver the following trivia that you didn’t know about the series.
10. The Perfect Attendance Award Goes To…
Billy and Alpha 5 are the only main characters to appear in all 155 episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That’s right, the nerd and the robot appeared in every episode of the original series. This is due in part to the departure of Austin St. John (Jason), Thuy Thang (Trini) and Walter Emanuel Johns (Zack) halfway through the second season and Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly) leaving toward the end of the third season.

Two types of people might take interest in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers complete series boxed sets: the diehard fans and those nostalgic for a piece of childhood. In this scenario, one of the parties will likely find huge disappointment waiting for them, while the other will simply be taking advantage of a spiffy consolidated set to streamline their collection. Can you guess which is which? Anyone who grew up with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and never checked in with the series after its run in American primetime might do well to not look back, because the memories they have of Austin St. John, Walter Emanuel Jones, David Yost, Thuy Trang, Amy Jo Johnson, and Jason David Frank are best left as such. The series only achieved that same quality once again in the series (in Power Rangers in Space) and beyond that you have an...
