She is the daughter of Daniel Stoffman, an author, and Judy Stoffman, an arts journalist.
Her family is Jewish. Her father's ancestors had come to Canada from the Russian Empire, while her mother immigrated with her parents from Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution.
