Exclusive: Two-time Canadian Olympic medallist Elvis Stojko is to guest star in CBC’s comedy One More Time.
We’ve got a first look at the popular figure skater, who will appear in the seventh episode of the Counterfeit Pictures series. The ep, titled ‘Lazer Blade,’ will air on Tuesday February 20 and also on streamer CBC Gem.
Stojko will play himself opposite star D.J. Demers (The Tonight Show) in the workplace comedy, in which hard-of-hearing second-hand sporting goods store manager Demers leads a team of ‘enthusiastic’ employees.
The figure skater won back-to-back Olympic silver medals at Lillehammer in 1994 and Nagano 1998 along with three world titles and seven national titles. He was inducted to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2011.

As In Its Wake begins Pastor Kurdt Waidmann is having a crisis of faith and asks God for a sign. He no sooner finishes than he gets the news that one of his parishioners was killed by a hit-and-run driver right outside the church. That probably wasn’t the sign he wanted, but The Lord works in mysterious ways.
In a restaurant, four friends Amy (Paige Foskett; Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities), Laura, Tim and Manny are trying to figure out what to do with their weekend.
At a nearby table, three businessmen Mitch, Sean, and Sam are doing the same. Until Sam decides to start trouble. But, before he and Tim can start throwing punches a familiar face appears and defuses the situation.

Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired Lee Foster’s supernatural horror In It’S Wake with plans to release on digital and DVD this August.
There’s nowhere to go… In the past, it’s been called The Wild Hunt, a time when holy men who have strayed from the path find themselves pursued by dark forces. With two groups of unsuspecting young travelers caught in between, a former minister encounters such a force as the sinister Duke of Crows unleashes his hound, a vicious drude that leaves nothing but death in its wake.
“With great creature effects, fun direction, and a wonderful mesh of religious horror and thrills – much like one of the big films of 2023, The Pope’s Exorcist – In It’s Wage is likely going to have many anticipating its release in August.”, said Keith Leopard, President Uncork’d Entertainment.

Humans with enhanced powers are being hunted down and captured by an Above Top Secret government agency. As one of them fights for her freedom she realizes one of her own kind may be an even bigger threat. The New Mutants or another new X-Men film?
No, it’s Enhanced, the new film from director James Mark. He’s teamed up with co-writers Matthew Nayman (Betrayal) and Peter Van Horne for a semi-sequel to Mark’s 2017 film Kill Order. Neither the film’s poster or any press materials refer to Enhanced as a sequel to or even in the same world as Kill Order. But the connections are obvious. The mutant’s powers,...

When the ever-angelic Rachel barked that Big Brother is full of snakes and snakelike behavior, I agreed with her (woah!) and immediately drew up a chart pairing every houseguest with a corresponding serpent. Zoobooks readers unite! Rachel, that reticulated Clairol monster, is a boa constrictor who wrings the patience and life out of her colleagues — even her own fiance. Shelly’s an agitated viper who finally jutted her neck and let her venom spill over. Kalia’s a sidewinder who laterally avoids becoming a prime target. Jordan’s a pretty but potent coral snake. Porsche’s a wriggly garter not worth dropkicking.

If there’s one thing that’s true about figure skating, it’s that the skaters are constantly one-upping the difficulty level – doubles became triples, then combos, then quads. So when it comes to whining about how “feminine” the sport has become, why should that be any different?
In one of the more hilarious commentaries I’ve read on figure skating in the Winter Olympics, the irony-proficient Salon.com decided to speak to Elvis Stojko, the Canadian skater who was last a big deal when he became the first skater to land a quad-triple combination jump in competition in 1997. He also became the poster boy for more athletic, less artistic type of skater.
So what did he think of the Olympic battle between the more “masculine” Evan Lysacek and the more flamboyant Johnny Weir? Needs more butch. Of Lysacek being the heir to his style, he says:
I don't think so.

I have to say, I.m really disappointed in people like Elvis Stojko, who I.ve always respected, who are saying the sport of figure skating is going backwards because Evan Lysacek won the gold over Evgeni Plushenko without attempting a quad. The truth is, Plushenko was not good last night. Not for him anyways. If he hadn't been so arrogant about the quad and done work on the rest of his program, he'd easily have won. How can anyone say that aside from the jumps, Plushenko.s and Lysacek's skills were the same? Certainly not on the spins, as Plushenko only did one really good spin and one of his sit spins almost came to a grinding hault. What...

In February, Skate Canada, the governing board of Canadian figure skating, announced that it was embarking on a campaign to change the image of men’s skating – from sometimes frilly and flamboyant to more of an emphasis on power, speed, and endurance.
The announcement was greeted negatively by some Glbt groups who saw the move as little more than thinly veiled homophobia and a slap in the face of the sport’s existing fans.
Two-time Olympic silver medalist Elvis Stojko seemed aware of the controversy when he told the Toronto Sun, "It has nothing to do with your sexual preference. It's all about what men's skating is – power and strength. Whether he's gay or straight, it doesn't matter. It's what you're showcasing on the ice. If you're very lyrical and you're really feminine and soft, well, that's not men's skating. That is not men’s skating, okay?” [Note: The emphasis was Stojko's.]
