- As of 2005 he and fellow Navan man Dylan Moran are the only So You Think You're Funny winners to go on to win The Perrier award during its entire 25 year run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival. As of 2006 they will be the only ones to do so under the name of the Perrier. It underwent several name changes due to changes of sponsor.

- In 1998 he made his first appearance on The Late Late Show (1962) in Ireland. He caused such outrage with his sketch on the Crucifixion that many angry protesters arrived at R.T.E. Studios to protest, before the show had finished. Tiernan was told not to go outside for his own safety and was stuck inside the studios for a couple of hours.
