Christopher Nolan's "Inception" dominated the 9th annual Visual Effects Society Awards winning the top prize of Outstanding Visual Effcts in a VFX-driven feature. The mind-bending film won all four categories that it was nominated for.
DreamWorks Animations' "How to Train Your Dragon" also received love from the Ves sweeping the feature animation categories including Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature.
The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton, also paid homage to Nolan by giving him the inaugural Ves Visionary Award. The great Ray Harryhausen was given the much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Visual Effects Society announced the winners of the Ves Awards in Beverly Hills yesterday. Inception nabbed the top awards in the feature categories, and Caprica, Boardwalk Empire and The Pacific won in the main television categories. You can find the complete list of winners is on THR. The other Ves Award nominees in the Broadcast Series category were Stargate Universe, V, No Ordinary Family, and The Event.

The Visual Effects Society has released the list of the nominees for the Ves Awards today and Caprica's VFX team has been nominated for an award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series, along with teams working on No Ordinary Family, V, The Event, and Stargate Universe.

commercials and video games.

No surprise there. It goes without saying that James Cameron's sci-fi spectacle Avatar has the potential to clean house at the 8th Annual Ves Awards for its breath taking visuals by the acclaimed Weta Digital. Despite being nominated for Best Drama and having its star Anna Paquin win Best Actress in a TV Drama at this year's Golden Globes, "True Blood" was shut out of the major categories for the 2009 Emmy Awards, which announced its nominees earlier today.
