Won a Mambembe Award and a Molière Prize for best actor for his role in "Os Emigrados" (1977) of Rubens Corrêa.
His one of the founders of Teatro Universitário.
In 1956 he won the Brazilian Critics Association of Theater Award for best supporting actor for his role in "A Viúva Astuciosa".
In 1959 Sebastião won the Governor Award for best actor for his role in "A Beata Maria do Egito".
Father of two boys named Luiz Filipe Costa and Luiz Roberto Costa.
