After he retired he went to work in the Juvenile Division of the Camden (NJ) Police Department. In 1965 he was appointed as Camden's Assistant Director of Public Safety.
He was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2013 for his services to sports.

Born Arnold Cream, he changed his professional name to Jersey Joe Walcott in honor of an early 20th-century boxer his father greatly admired.
