The comic strip "Beetle Bailey" started out as a rip-off of the TV series "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" but then became the most famous strip to depict life in the army.
Walker designed and created a bronze statue of his Beetle Bailey character that has resided on the campus of his alma mater, the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., since 1992.
