This year, DC Comics is celebrating Pride Month with a bang.
On May 31, the company will launch “DC Pride 2022,” a 104-page anthology comic featuring stories from LGBTQ creators and focusing on queer characters from the DC universe. The comic will open with an introduction from Nicole Maines, the transgender rights activist and actor who portrayed Nia Nal on “Supergirl” in 2018, becoming the first trans actor to play a superhero on television. The issue is also slated to feature a teaser for a future project from DC involving Maines.
Among the many exciting projects comes the story “Finding Batman,” which is written by Kevin Conroy with art by J. Bone and lettering by Aditya Bidikar. For those of you who grew up with a little Rainbow Brite in your life, you'll be happy to learn that the classic colorful character will be making a comeback! The new comic series is being developed by Dynamite Entertainment and Hallmark and it's said to be an adventure that children and adults will enjoy.
The comic will be created by writer Jeremy Whitley and artist Brittney Williams. Whitley had this to say in a statement:
“Rainbow Brite captured the imaginations of kids born in the '80s (like myself) as a fantasy heroine who could change the world not just through magic, but through kindness. She is a symbol of what can happen when we all work together and fight back against the shadows that want to drain all of the color from the world."The world needs a young hero clad in a rainbow now more than ever...
