“Horror is not just for Halloween anymore,” Universal’s Mark Woodbury told Bloomberg back in January, announcing an upcoming year-round, all-horror destination in Las Vegas.
Universal Horror Unleashed is the destination’s official title, we’ve now learned today!
The destination, which essentially turns Halloween Horror Nights into a year-round affair, is said to feature “content from both historical and upcoming films” from Universal.
Bloomberg explained, “At 110,000 square feet, it will be the anchor tenant in a 20-acre expansion of Area15, an entertainment district that opened in 2020. The location, near the city’s famous Strip and off of the 15 freeway, already includes themed restaurants and entertainment attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, an immersive art experience.”
No word yet on when the spooky space will be opening up for business, but it sounds like Las Vegas is about to become a “bucket list” destination for horror fans across the world.

NBCUniversal’s Mark Woodbury, CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, revealed new details Thursday about the planned Universal Epic Universe theme park, which is scheduled to open in Florida in 2025.
Speaking at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Woodbury said the new park is the “most technologically advanced park” yet for Universal. This park will also usher in the use of “facial recognition, photo validation technology” that will allow guests to have a “frictionless experience” at this park, as well as at the company’s other parks in Orlando.
“It’s the most technologically advanced park we’ve ever done,” Woodbury said. “And that speaks to both the attractions themselves, the next generation of robotics drone technology, all the way through to the guest experience. The full guest journey is really being taken to a whole new level.”

Comcast president Mike Cavanagh addressed the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes during the NBCUniversal parent company’s second quarter earnings call Thursday.
“We are committed to reaching a fair deal with the guilds as soon as possible,” Cavanagh said. “Beyond that, for all involved in the industry, broadly, a prolonged work stoppage and the longer it goes, the worse it’ll be. It is obviously going to have a negative impact all around.”
The WGA work stoppage has been ongoing since May 2, while SAG-AFTRA went on strike July 14.
The strikes have brought scripted film and TV production to a standstill across Hollywood as the actors and writers unions continue picketing against the studios repped by the AMPTP.
“As you look at Peacock, I wouldn’t point out anything in particular related to strikes and its effect in 2023, the second half of the year,” Cavanagh told analysts Thursday. “Obviously, the longer a strike,...

Anyone looking for a sign of Comcast president Mike Cavanagh’s strategy as the recently installed overseer of NBCUniversal got a bright one Thursday.
The seasoned finance exec unveiled a significant revamp of the company’s senior management ranks today. Donna Langley, Mark Lazarus and Cesar Conde headed the list of those gaining promotions, while Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content for NBCU television and streaming, was a high-profile exec to exit the company.
Donna Langley
One notable aspect of the new org chart is Langley’s new dual role overseeing both film and TV. At companies of comparable scale to NBCU, the film and TV realms are still generally run separately even though the line between them gets blurrier every day. Amazon, Apple and Netflix have all made moves to unify the management at the very top of the food chain, but traditional media firms still have separate silos.

Donna Langley: Now with TV!
The chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group has added television oversight as part of a Thursday restructuring at NBCUniversal; Langley’s title is now chairman, NBCUniversal Studio Group & chief content officer. Susan Rovner, who was chairman of entertainment content for NBCU’s television and streaming division, is leaving the company.
Rovner’s counterpart, Frances Berwick, will be elevated to chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment, a newly formed role reporting into both Langley and NBCUniversal Media Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.
The news was announced Thursday by Mike Cavanaugh, who took over in April after Jeff Shell exited following an investigation into sexual harassment. Cavanaugh’s restructure includes himself as president but no CEO; in place of that position are a hand-picked leadership team. In addition to Langley overseeing all content, Lazarus will lead Peacock, NBC Sports, and affiliates, Cesar Conde has the news division, and Mark Woodbury leads parks.

Universal film chief Donna Langley is set to take control of content and creative ops across NBCUniversal’s portfolio of brands, as TV chief Susan Rovner exits the company.
The shakeup in leadership is the first major restructuring move made by Comcast president Mike Cavanagh since he took direct oversight of subsidiary NBCU upon the ousting of CEO Jeff Shell in April.
In a memo to staff Thursday, Cavanagh announced NBCUniversal will be reorganized into four key units: NBCUniversal Studio Group, led by Langley, NBCUniversal Media Group, run by chairman of TV and streaming Mark Lazarus, NBCU News Group, run by existing news boss Cesar Conde, and the Universal Destinations and Experiences Group, headed up by parks boss Mark Woodbury.
Cavanagh is doubling down on his decision to not name a new CEO of NBCU, and instead continue to oversee the media company from his role as president of Comcast.

Comcast unveiled a shock change atop its entertainment arm NBCUniversal on Sunday, putting in charge trusted corporate executive Mike Cavanagh to replace NBCU CEO Jeff Shell.
In a Monday regulatory filing, the company detailed that Shell had engaged in “inappropriate conduct with a female employee, including allegations of sexual harassment,” leading it to retain outside counsel to investigate. “Evidence was uncovered that corroborated the allegations,” the filing highlighted. As a consequence, Comcast “terminated Mr. Shell’s employment with cause,” meaning he won’t have right to severance pay, with immediate effect.
Attorney Suzanne McKie of Farore Law stated to multiple outlets that her client, CNBC journalist Hadley Gamble, made a complaint against Shell that sparked an investigation.

Updated: Comcast dropped a bombshell Sunday, announcing that NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell is leaving the company, effective immediately. The “mutual” decision comes after an investigation led by outside counsel into a complaint on inappropriate conduct by Shell.

For over thirty years, Universal has been hosting extremely popular Halloween Horror Nights events at their theme parks around the world. These events come along every year and last throughout the Halloween season… and they have been so successful, Universal is now planning to set up a permanent horror-themed entertainment experience. But instead of hosting this permanent experience at their parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan, or Singapore, they’re going to set it up in Las Vegas.

“Horror is not just for Halloween anymore at Universal,” Universal’s Mark Woodbury tells Bloomberg this week, announcing an upcoming year-round, all-horror destination in Las Vegas.
The destination, which essentially turns Halloween Horror Nights into a year-round affair, is said to feature “content from both historical and upcoming films” from Universal.
Bloomberg explains, “At 110,000 square feet, it will be the anchor tenant in a 20-acre expansion of Area15, an entertainment district that opened in 2020.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it!

Universal has merged its brand development team with its parks and resorts merchandise group to create the newly formed products and experiences division.
The current Universal Brand Development president, Vince Klaseus, will lead the new division. He will report directly to Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO, Universal Parks and Resorts.
Universal Parks and Resorts in the U.S. are Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort. The company’s Products and Experiences group operates by extending the Universal-owned characters and stories — like Jurassic Park and Minions — by bringing them to life in through toys, collectables, books, apparel, lifestyle categories, video games and digital initiatives like NFTs. By operating together, Woodbury says, the teams can work “on a much larger scale.”

Wamg was among members of the media and invited guests to witness the Grand Opening of Fast and Furious Supercharged, the latest movie-themed attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood. The presentation treated everyone to an extensive display of cars from the movies, a dance performance, speeches by top Universal execs and L.A.’s mayor, all topped off by an exciting assortment of live car stunts including a 90-foot jump through a billboard that caught us by surprise.
After the presentation concluded, we were lucky enough to go on a test-ride of the adrenalin-pumping, high-speed adventure with Dom, Hobbs and the rest of the Fast and Furious gang. Since Universal Orlando Resort's Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened in June 2010, its two rides, shops, restaurant and pub have been jam-packed with visitors - making the overcrowded acreage seem ripe for expansion. That very notion came to pass this week, with Thursday's media announcement that several additional Potter-related attractions - estimated to cost $400 million - will arrive at the Orlando destination this summer. "We'll bring even more Harry Potter adventures to life," said Universal Creative president Mark Woodbury, who promised "a whole new level of storytelling." Plans call for a new area called Diagon Alley, as in the...

Decepticons watch out, because Transformers: The Ride 3D has successfully infiltrated three Universal theme parks worldwide. After opening in Singapore in 2011 and then Hollywood in 2012, the 3D ride finally held its grand opening at Universal Orlando on June 20, 2013.
On hand for the grand opening were producer Steven Spielberg, longtime "Transformers" voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, President of Universal Creative Mark Woodbury, chairman of Universal Parks & Resorts Tom Williams and other Universal and Hasbro executives. Also rolling out in full force were Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, who walked the red carpet and posed for fans before the event took place.
Though a very similar grand opening took place at Universal Hollywood just last year, the Universal Orlando team went above and beyond with their celebration. When the grand opening finally kicked off after the red carpet ended, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime arrived in their Camaro and truck forms,...

Just like Harry Potter's Wizarding World is set to open in Universal Studios Hollywood, the popular "Transformers 3D" attraction is crossing the country to open at Universal Orlando Resort. Optimus Prime announced the upcoming ride -- which is slated to open this summer 2013 -- by breaking into the Studio's nightly Cinematic Spectacular montage of Universal's 100 years of films to warn of the Decepticons' plan to take over Orlando. "A battle is coming to Orlando," Optimus' booming voice (Peter Cullen) announced to thousands of applauding fans. "Transformers: The Ride 3D" opened in Hollywood this past May, immediately becoming the theme park's must-see destination, and before that in Singapore in Dec. 3011. "It has already become a global phenomenon, and reaction has been over the top," said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. "So it was rush-rush and 'Let's get it to Orlando in a hurry.'" Like both the "Amazing Adventures of...

If you've been bummed about the fact that "Transformers: The Ride 3D" was too far away for you to visit, then we've got some exciting news for you. Universal Orlando has just announced that it will be the third theme park worldwide to bring Optimus Prime's latest adventure to parkgoers.
"Transformers: The Ride 3D" opened at Universal Hollywood over the summer to a very positive response, following in the footsteps of Universal Singapore's launch of the ride on December 3, 2011. The success both parks had with the theme park attraction convinced Universal Creative president Mark Woodbury that it would fit in well at Orlando as well.
"Not only has it proven to be wildly popular as an attraction in Singapore and Hollywood, but this is a blockbuster franchise with three big movies, each one of them a major success at the box office, and another film in the making, so...

Hollywood is in love with 3-D right now, a trend MTV is celebrating this week with 3-D Week. After the success of "Avatar," studios are busy , bringing classic films back in three dimensions and filming a whole slew of new films using 3-D technology.
So what does that have to do with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you might ask? The whole 3-D sensation is about having the viewer feel as though they are a part of the world of the film they are watching. And that's a bit like what Universal's done for "Harry Potter" fans. It's no secret that I've been pretty excited about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter for quite a long time. Over on Movies Blog's sister blog, Hollywood Crush, I've been covering news about the park pretty much since the beginning, and named it the release in 2010 that we are most excited for. Butterbeer and my favorite wizard at a theme park? Yes, please.
So when Universal invited us down to get a first look at the park, it was pretty much a dream come true. I've grown up with the "Harry Potter" series and while I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard fan of the series, I hold the story pretty close to my heart.
Our tour started out with a chat with Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Orlando, in a room that featured a model of the park and conceptual drawings for the various "Harry Potter"-themed shops that Wizarding World would be featuring.
