- Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 (as a member of The Lovin' Spoonful).
- One daughter Zoe with his first wife Jackie Burroughs born in October of 1967.
- From 1979 until his death in 2002, ran the upscale restaurant "Chez Piggy" along with his second wife Rose Richardson in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
- Was arrested for possession of marijuana and the resulting bad publicity not only led to him being kicked out of the The Lovin' Spoonful, but it also led to his being deported back to Canada.
- Upon opening his restaurant "Chez Piggy", Yanovsky was asked by a reporter what experience he had for the restaurant business he famously replied: "I've been eating in restaurants my entire life".
- Was a founding member of The Mugwumps, which also featured Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty who would go on to form The Mamas and the Papas.
