  • TVfanatic
We're ready to round out today's entertainment news.

We have news about a TV series reboot, a movie franchise to television project, and a whole lot more.

Let's dig in!

First up, it appears Greg Berlanti has no desire to slow down.

He's getting back into business with ABC with Riverdale creator Ricardo Aguirre-Sacasa, the latter of which is working on getting as prolific with Berlanti.

They're developing a new series based on the Brides of Dracula called "The Brides."

Interestingly, this isn't the first time a Brides of Dracula-based series has been considered, and it's not even the first time This series has been on the table.

Described by ABC as a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy -- and their nontraditional family, a show with the same logline was offered to NBC five years ago.

While that didn't go forward,

Reno 911! Revival Series Set for Quibi

Joseph Baxter Dec 6, 2019

2020-launching streaming platform Quibi is getting a revival series of classic Cops spoof series Reno 911!.

Reno 911! will soon walk the television beat once again, this time on streaming platform Quibi.

It has been announced that Quibi – a short-form streaming service backed by the coffers of Jeffrey Katzenberg and six major studio investors – will be the platform on which the Reno 911! revival manifests. Indeed, the classification as a “revival” is accurate, since this will be a proper continuation of the popular Cops-parodying mockumentary series, which originally ran on Comedy Central for six seasons (2003-2009). Thus, this is essentially a belated release of Reno 911! Season 7.

Original series creators (and main cast members) Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver return to write and star in the Reno revival. They will be joined by Artists First’s Peter Principato, who serves as an executive producer,

‘Carol’s Second Act’: Cedric Yarbrough Upped To Series Regular On CBS Comedy

  • Deadline
Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Nurse Dennis on CBS’ comedy Carol’s Second Act. Cedric Yarbrough, who has recurred as the character since the series’ launch, has been promoted to series regular.

Yarbrough’s Nurse Dennis is a hospital veteran who runs the town, and has little patience for nonsense from interns. Though he’s described as generally dry, he does have a mischievous side and isn’t above holding a grudge.

Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton, hails from Trophy Wife creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Heaton and David Hunt’s FourBoys Entertainment and CBS TV Studios. Written by Halpern and Haskins, it centers on Carol Chambers (Heaton), who after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, embarks on a unique second act: she’s going to become a doctor.

In addition to Heaton, the series stars Kyle MacLachlan as Dr.

‘Speechless’ Cancellation Was A “Gut Wrenching” Decision For ABC Chief Karey Burke

‘Speechless’ Cancellation Was A “Gut Wrenching” Decision For ABC Chief Karey Burke
The cancellation of Speechless was a “gut wrenching” decision for ABC boss Karey Burke.

The ABC Entertainment president revealed that it was a tough decision that caused a lot of “anguish” and also hit hard given that creator and exec producer Scott Silveri is a former producing partner of hers.

“There was a lot of anguish for me and all of us at ABC. We love Speechless, it was a very tough decision. Scott Silveri is a former producing partner of mine and it was not without great gut wrenching consideration that we ultimately made that call. We looked at a lot of factors and ultimately it came down to numbers and feeling like we could shore up the night more strongly with Fresh Off The Boat,” she said at Disney’s press upfronts.

Speechless and Splitting Up Together Canceled at ABC

The bloodbath at ABC continues!

Comedies Speechless and Splitting Up Together are the latest cancellations at the Alphabet network, it has been announced.

Speechless lasted three seasons before the plug was pulled. Moving to a new night this season, it tumbled almost 60 percent in the demo.

In live + same day metrics, it is averaged 2.3 million viewers and a 0.5 rating. It did get a minor bump with delayed viewing factored in.

It was ABC's least-watched scripted series, so the cancellation is not completely surprising. ABC did own the show, so many thought it stood a decent shot at being renewed.

However, it seems the network is going in a different direction.

Speechless starred Minnie Driver, John Ross Bowie, Cedric Yarbrough, Mason Cook, Micah Fowler, and Kyla Kenedy

As for Splitting Up Together, the rom-com was not owned by ABC and was pulling in anemic ratings all season long.
