Malikappuram, directed by debut filmmaker Vishnu Sasi Sankar and written by Abhilash Pillai, is a drama centred around an eight-year-old girl who wants to visit Lord Ayyappa in his abode, Sabarimala, a hill shrine located in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district. While Rrr reimagines two real life activists as Hindu mythological heroes, Malikappuram offers an open-to-interpretation narrative that has Ayyappa appearing in human form as a guardian. The film, made on a budget of less than Rs 5 crore, is said to have minted close to Rs 15 crore in just 10 days.
