- Nephew of Paul Terry
- Along with such cartoon characters such as Crusader Rabbit and Dudley-Do-Right, he is recognized as the creator of the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoon series. In 1996, he reached an out-of-court settlement with Jay Ward Productions over the rights to Bullwinkle, Rocky and Dudley-Do-Right.
- He created the character of Bullwinkle after having a dream about a moose sitting in on a poker game with him and his friends. The cartoon moose was named after a car dealership (with a slightly different spelling) in Berkeley, California.
- He attended UC Berkeley and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
