Netflix, Amazon and DreamWorks Animation are all reportedly battling for the rights to Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos’ big-screen version of Bob The Builder.
In news that might make some British readers do a double take, the animated children’s TV show Bob The Builder is being adapted into a film by Jennifer Lopez’s production company, and interest is such that a bidding war has reportedly sparked up.
According to Deadline's exclusive, Netflix, Amazon MGM and DreamWorks Animation are all interested in partnering with Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions on the animated project.
Unexpected though ‘Jennifer Lopez’s Bob The Builder’ might be as a headline, the musician and star’s plans for the film have plenty of logic behind them. Actor Anthony Ramos – who’ll produce the film alongside Lopez – originally came up with the idea of telling a Bob The Builder story set in Puerto Rico.

First, the bad news. A session helping to launch an extended MipJunior on Friday afternoon, underscored just how hard the kids TV business is suffering.
Prefacing a panel discussion on the State of the Kids Entertainment Industry, Challenges & Opportunities, Ampere Analysis’ Cyrine Amor suggested global kids TV commissions were down 48% in August 2023 and down 21% year-on-year for the 12 months period to end of August 2023.
That’s a radically more significant decrease than the 11% decline in commissioning seen across all programs types for the same period.
U.S. SVOD services and pay TV channels are cutting back most sharply, she said. In the U.S. market, public broadcaster commissions of kids programs were down 8% through August. Pay TV commissions, in contrast, had dived 53%, SVOD orders by 33%.
“There are a lot of factors, including inflation,” she said.
Western Europe is also seeing declines, especially in public service broadcaster’s commissioning of kids TV content.

Rubble & Crew, the latest chapter in Spin Master’s Paw Patrol universe, marks the franchise’s first expansion into TV spinoffs.
It arrives just in time for the brand’s 10-year anniversary and the launch of its second theatrical film, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. But the show’s Feb. 3 premiere also comes after its IP holder, as well as platform distributors Nickelodeon and Paramount, have already vested into just about every other corner of kids entertainment possible: publishing, merchandising, toys, video games, stage shows, social media and theme parks, to name a few.
The series centers on Rubble, an English bulldog and his pup family of construction workers. It’s a step away from the rescue-driven world of the original Paw Patrol series, which was first conceived in 2010. That show follows Ryder, a young boy who mainly calls on his six pup friends to spring into action whenever...

“Paw Patrol: The Movie,” subtitled lest young viewers get confused, is a movie based on the popular children’s television series. The computer animated series — of the bright colors, big heads, and wide shimmering eyes variety — was created by “Bob The Builder” helmer Keith Chapman. Following a short stint in Muppets design at Jim Henson International, Chapman left to purse a career in advertising before creating the Bob the Builder character. After striking a licensing deal before the character’s successful TV debut, he launched “Paw Patrol” in 2013, another massive hit that was recently renewed for a ninth season on Nickelodeon. “Paw Patrol: The Movie” is the latest iteration of Chapman’s proprietary pup brigade.

Ryder and his Paw Patrol could be adding to the search and rescue team.
Fresh from spinning off its hit animated underwater series SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon boss Brian Robbins has hinted that the canine family could be next in line for an expansion.
Robbins, who is President, ViacomCBS Kids & Family, told Deadline that it was “possible” that they could expand the kids’ franchise, on top of upcoming theatrical movie Paw Patrol: The Movie, which is set for an August premiere.
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” he said. “Let’s see how this film does.”
Some have wondered whether there could be a feline-based spinoff or a hybrid live-action version of the show, which last year was renewed for an eighth season.
