Below Deck Down Under second officer João Franco hoped Jezabob wouldn’t make an appearance this season, but his alter ego ended up rearing his ugly head.
Franco referred to Jezabob early this season and told the crew that when he got drunk, his alter ego Jezabob took over and he (and other crew members) wasn’t a fan. Jezabob has no filter and makes harsh remarks. Jezabob is also a bit of a womanizer.
Franco may have kept the Genie in the bottle, but unleashed Jezabob during the final crew night on the town – and it wasn’t pretty.
Why did João turn into Jezabob on ‘Below Deck Down Under’?
Franco had quit drinking after watching how his alter ego insulted and hurt crew members when he was bosun on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4. He didn’t like who he was when he drank so he curbed a lot of his partying.

Bosun João Franco and chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph may be having a playful fling on Below Deck Down Under, but all the signs point to the yachties not still being together.
After endless flirting, Franco and Mace-Ralph finally hooked up. Of course, all this went down even after Mace-Ralph said Franco hurt one of her friends so she was a little spicy toward him when he came on board. But the ice melted pretty quickly for Mace-Ralph, especially when deckhand Culver Bradbury suddenly became interested in new stew Jaimee Neale.
With only a few Below Deck Down Under episodes left, why didn’t João Franco and Tzarina Mace-Ralph stay together?
Does João’s hook-up with Margot Sisson destroy any future with Chef Tzarina?
Production “snuck in” a clip of what appears to be Franco and stew Margot Sisson in a liplock. The clip was so fast it was hard to confirm...

Below Deck Down Under viewers were likely surprised when second officer João Franco from Below Deck Mediterranean joined the cast. But he’s not the first crew member to jump series and cast crossovers seem to be happening more and more within the franchise.
So which crew members started in one Below Deck series and jumped ship to another?
‘Below Deck’ crew member crossovers who launched a new series
The original Below Deck series was such a success that production company 51 Minds launched Below Deck Mediterranean. But rather than kick it off with an entirely new cast, they included original chef Ben Robinson to set sail alongside new chief stew Hannah Ferrier and Captain Mark Howard.
Robinson appeared on Below Deck Med once more as the relief chef on season 4. Chef Adam Glick took over on Below Deck Med for seasons 2 and 3. He then became the crossover cast member to launch Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Below Deck Down Under second officer João Franco has an alter ego, Jezabob, and Jezabob can cause chaos. During his first Below Deck appearance, Franco would get drunk and make extremely spicy comments to the crew.
He alienated some of the crew members, especially chief stew Hannah Ferrier and Jezabob mainly emerged during drunken nights with the crew. When he returned as bosun in Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4, he muted Jezabob but still managed to offend some crew members, especially Aesha Scott. She blocked him on social media after he said her outfit resembled something a prostitute would wear.
Franco is back on Below Deck Down Under as the second officer and claimed that Jezabob won’t return. But how bad was he and what steps did he take to kick his alter ego to the curb?

A huge part of every Below Deck charter is finding out how much tip the crew receives. Below Deck charters are discounted and typically span for only a few days and nights. But the tip is almost always scrutinized as being too low or celebrated when the guest is a big tipper.
A decent tip on Below Deck is usually anywhere between $18,000 to $20,000. Tips of more than $20,000 are on the larger side and crews have seen some tips of $30,000 or more.
Despite $30,000 or more being considered to be a great tip on Below Deck, $40,000 crew tips are very possible for chartering a superyacht in the “real world.”
Real charter tips start at $23,000
A decent $20,000 tip on Below Deck is sort of “meh” in the real yachting world. Based on what it would cost to charter one of the Below Deck yachts for a week, guests would end up leaving about...

Below Deck Down Under bosun João Franco may be new to the series, but not the franchise. Franco made his first appearance on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 3 as a deckhand. He returned for Below Deck Med Season 4 as bosun and has been working on racking up certifications while off the show.
Franco has been a controversial figure on Below Deck. He majorly clashed with chief stew Hannah Ferrier and bosun Conrad Empson during his first season of the series. Franco also dated one stew while flirting with another stew and got extremely messy when he would get drunk.
And while Below Deck Med Season 3 was tough and he received backlash, he returned for Below Deck Med Season 4 as bosun and as a redemption season. He patched up any conflicts he had with Ferrier and curbed his drinking. And while he definitely bickered less with the crew, he still ended up making waves.

New Below Deck Down Under bosun João Franco got a less than thrilling welcome from chief stew Aesha Scott because they majorly clashed the last time they worked together.
Franco will replace fired bosun Luke Jones and while he and Scott don’t totally hate each other, she blocked him on social media after they worked together on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4, especially after Franco referred to Scott as looking like a “Russian prostitute” during the season.
Aesha Scott said João Franco used to flirt with her ‘all the time’
Scott wanted to confront Franco at the Below Deck Med Season 4 reunion, but they didn’t film a reunion that season. At one point Franco made a derogatory comment about Scott’s outfit when the crew was out on the town.

Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean and her girlfriend Leah Shafer shared how they handle hateful online attacks, especially during Yawn’s first season of the show.
“The first season it was so hard,” Yawn said on her Captain Sandy and Leah Rae Show podcast. “I answered everyone. I took it personal and then I realized they don’t know me. They don’t get to have me. And I think for Leah, it took you a little while to say they don’t get to have you and your response. Because let me tell you, Leah went after them.”
Girlfriend Leah Shafer realized that responding to online attacks was futile
Shafer gets frustrated with the online attacks. “I mean, naturally, I want to defend my person because I know who she is, and I know her heart and I know who she is in life,” she said. “You...

Below Deck Mediterranean stew Kasey Cohen had some genuine moments with (then) deckhand João Franco that never aired on season 3.
Franco earned a bad reputation on his first season of Below Deck Med. He had a huge conflict with chief stew Hannah Ferrier and flirted with Cohen while also trying to date second stew, Brooke Laughton. Cohen agreed that what was shown of Franco did portray him as a villain. But there was plenty of footage showing Franco’s softer, kinder side that never made the show.

Especially toward the beginning of Below Deck Med Season 3, Cohen was horribly seasick. She said Franco cared and helped her.

Stew June Foster went viral on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 when chief stew Hannah Ferrier continuously called “June, June, Hannah” on the radio. In fact, to this day, she still has strangers relay the line to her, which makes her laugh.
But she wasn’t laughing after her departure from the show. Foster was hired when stew Anastasia Surmava took over as chef when the original chef was fired. Surmava’s time as the chef was short-lived and the stress caused her to return back to being a stew. Foster was let go and she seemed rattled and pretty upset at the time.
Foster recently told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that she privately struggled off the show due to backlash and online bullying.
June Foster was upset to be let go on ‘Below Deck Med’ but online bullying was worse
Foster said she totally understood why Captain Sandy Yawn had to let her go.

Watching Kasey Cohen on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 3 was a fascinating experience for her girlfriend Liron Revivo. The couple matched on Bumble in 2021 and Revivo said that while she was familiar with the Below Deck Med series, she hadn’t watched Cohen’s season.
Revivo shared her reaction to watching Cohen on the show and said while some of what was shown were accurate, other aspects are not the woman she fell in love with.
How was Kasey different than she was on ‘Below Deck Med’ season 3?
Revivo told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Cohen’s abilities were definitely dumbed down on the show.
“My first reaction was she seems a lot dumber on this show,” she said. “Listen, we’ve lived together for almost a year and a half now. She cooks and cleans and does laundry. And she is ultimately the hardest-working woman I have ever known in my life.
