Moviegoers got shocking news earlier this month when it was announced James Dean would be digitally recreated using CGI visual effects in order to play a leading role in the upcoming Vietnam War action-drama “Finding Jack.” Dean died in a car crash in September 1955 at the age of 24 after leading the three feature films “East of Eden,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” and “Giant.” Bringing Dean back to the big screen through CGI has proved controversial, but it’s just the beginning for Worldwide Xr, a new company that “aims to bring digital humans to traditional film as well as augmented and virtual reality” (via Variety).
In addition to James Dean, Worldwide Xr holds the rights for more than 400 celebrities, athletes, historical figures, musicians, and more, all of whom could be digitally recreated to appear in movies or virtual reality projects. “Influencers will come and go, but legends will never die,...

The actor, best known for “Rebel Without a Cause,” “East of Eden” and “Giant,” died in a car accident in 1955 at age 24. Magic City Films has obtained rights from his family to cast Dean posthumously in the secondary lead role in the movie.

Norm MacDonald must need some quick cash, because he has signed on to voice a dog in a movie called "Vampire Dog," the trailer for which has gone viral, mostly because it's so bad that it looks like a spoof of family movies. But it's a real film and you can watch the trailer below. Plot: Ace (Collin MacKechnie) is just like any other new kid at school, until he inherits Fang (MacDonald), his grandfather's Transylvanian dog. Fang, however is no ordinary canine. He's really a "vampire dog," that licks jelly from a bowl and even speaks English. Together, the two misfits discover that with a little teamwork and courage, anything is possible. The new movie is directed by Geoff Anderson, a visual FX supervisor on such films as "Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch" and "Snow Buddies." It's set to hit stores on DVD on September 25th. Trailer:...

In this day and age, it's becoming harder and harder to distinguish YouTube parody videos from genuinely bad stuff. So when a trailer for a movie called Vampire Dog hits the web and happens to go viral, it's easy to assume that it must be a joke. But no, as it turns out, this is a real direct-to-dvd movie that will be hitting store shelves next week and it looks pretty hilarious. The story revolves around a boy named Ace (Collin MacKechnie), who inherits his grandfather's Transylvanian dog, Fang. What he doesn't know is that the dog is also a vampire. Norm MacDonald voices Fang, which makes this feel even more like some sort of meta-parody of terrible family films. However, the fact that it is directed by Geoff Anderson, a visual FX supervisor on such films as Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch and Snow Buddies, says otherwise. Whether or not it is truly self-aware,...

Poor Norm MacDonald. Or, better yet: why, Norm MacDonald?
From the outset of the trailer for Vampire Dog, its clear that neither a good story or quality acting are going to be the selling point for this live-action, talking dog movie, but there could be enough casual interest from thirteen-year-old boys with nothing to do on a weekend night to at least make back the movie's budget in rentals. But when the vampire dog speaks for the first time, and MacDonald's hard-to-miss nasal whine can be heard coming out of the dog's mouth, it's hard not to cry out to the heavens: "No!" — even if one is only a casual MacDonald fan.
So what's the plot? It's the usual "boy inherits vampire dog from Transylvanian grandfather" story with an added layer of ridiculousness that includes a "mad scientist" named Dr. Warhol who wants the dog's blood for her anti-aging cream.

It wasn’t until I watched Mr. Plinkett’s hilarious review of Cop Dog that it truly hit me how many low budget direct-to-dvd kiddy doggy flicks there have been. It doesn’t look anyone’s going to drive a stake through this subgenre’s heart anytime soon, and that’s a good thing because a Vampire Dog is coming to sink his adorable fangs into your neck.
Seriously, watch that Mr. Plinkett review where he runs down a seemingly endless list of DVD dog movies. It just goes on forever. Adding a bit of a ghoulish twist isn’t out the question either given this year alone has spawned Spooky Buddies, Monster Mutt, and The Dog that Saved Halloween. Now Canadian Tax Shelter Theater, in association with Trilight Entertainment and Joker Films, proudly presents Vampire Dog.

In 2009, the federal government gave nearly $30 billion to states for transportation projects, hoping to juice employment. Newsweek's David A. Graham reports on how many states may have wasted that money-and why they might do it again.
Tucked into the stimulus package signed into law two years ago was a $30 billion wallop aimed directly at jump-starting the jobs market. The funds were designated for infrastructure spending and handed over to the states. Injecting money into transportation projects, the thinking goes, is an especially potent jobs-creation tool because it not only puts construction workers and contractors to work quickly, it also lays the groundwork for future economic growth and development. Obama predicted the transportation money alone would put hundreds of thousands of workers on the job.
