Trapped in a mundane job at the tomato plant, Theo dreams of becoming a glamorous race car driver.
He wants the fame and fortune of Indianapolis 500 winner Guy Gagne, but more than anything, Theo wants to go fast.
The problem? Theo is a snail.
That's the premise behind the DreamWorks Animation movie "Turbo" that opens Wednesday and features the Indianapolis 500. The idea, by director, co-writer and story creator David Soren, came from watching his young son's obsession with "all things fast" and an annoying snail infestation in his own front yard.
"It's the juxtaposition of extreme slowness and speed all in my yard," Soren said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "I love an underdog story, and nobody expects anything out of a snail, the odds are stacked against them. They are the butt of slow jokes – they are stepped on by kids, despised by gardeners,...

Despite a close run from Japanese driver Takuma Sato, Dario Franchitti (aka Mr. Ashley Judd) won the 2012 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday (May 27) for the third time. A final lap crash took Sato out of the running and barely missed hitting Franchitti as his car skidded into the outside wall of the raceway, reports the Associated Press.
Franchitti's teammate, Scott Dixon, finished second while Tony Kanaan finished third.
"I want to thank all the fans for saluting our Dan today," said Franchitti from the winners' circle, who was a close friend of Dan Wheldon who died in a race during the 2011 racing season. "What a race."
Weather in Indianapolis was a grueling 91 degrees during the three-plus hour race. Another favorite driver, Marco Andretti, crashed with 13 laps to go -- dashing his chances at the win.

When the 96th Indianapolis 500 revs up Sunday, May 27, on ABC from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, one figure will loom large over the proceedings. And he won't even be there -- at least physically.
Dan Wheldon, the two-time Indy 500 winner and '05 series champ who was killed in a multicar pileup at last year's season finale at Las Vegas, will be impossible to overlook for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that had he lived, he'd be the defending race champ.
Wheldon was well-liked and respected by his friends and rivals in IndyCar, and his death last fall devastated the auto racing community and put a sad coda to what had otherwise been a successful 2011 season.
One who feels Wheldon's absence more than most is Dario Franchitti, himself a two-time Indy 500 victor and four-time IndyCar champ, who was a good friend and former teammate of Wheldon's at Andretti Green Racing from 2003 to 2005.

During the Baltimore Grand Prix warm-up on Sunday (Sept. 4), racecar driver -- and "Dancing With the Stars" champion -- Helio Castroneves' car was totaled during a seven-lap practice round.
Fellow driver Tony Kanaan was behind Castroneves when Kanaan experienced total brake failure. His car took out the right side of Castroneves car. Neither driver was injured but there was too much damage to salvage Castoneves' ride. A back-up car was brought in.
