Kristin Iris Johnson was born in Chicago, IL. She is a queer, Showrunner, Screenwriter, and Film Producer. Having a lifelong gift for storytelling Kristin attended Columbia College Chicago where she studied both Film/Video and Fiction Writing before getting her BA in Fiction Writing. She has produced over twenty feature films and anthology short films, and spent two years as VP of Development at MegaMind Media. She and fellow writer Serena M. Lee are the creators and writers of the hit supernatural TV series Wicked City (2022) which Kristin also executive produces. The show stars Shaquita Smith, Chantal Maurice, and Rhonda Morman. Kristin produced the feature film Trophy Wife (2022); and is a producer of the feature film biopic First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story (2023) which was nominated for two NAACP Image Awards; as well as producer of the feature films The Couch: Black Girl Erupted (2023), ; The Deadly Getaway (2022); Holiday Heartbreak (2020); A Rich Christmas (2021); The Available Wife (2020) and more; working both in the story development and production of these films. She co-produced two very important anthology series with BET Her that highlight mental health challenges and breast cancer awareness in the Black community: BET Her Presents: The Couch (2020) and BET Her Presents: The Waiting Room (2019). She is in development and pre-production of several feature films and television series.
Kristin seeks to expand how Black and other marginalized people are depicted in film and TV. To that end, she founded the Black Screenwriter Alliance, a membership community to help Black screenwriters connect, and develop their scripts and writing careers so they can make an impact in the industry. She believes that as writers and creators we are the wild fruit grown from the seeds of our ancestors; paving new ground, igniting change, and inspiring others through the stories we tell.
