Eric Setterlund
- Composer
Born June 6, 1985, Eric Setterlund is an American music composer from Memphis, Tennessee. He is a lifelong lover of sound who began experimenting with various instruments from an early age. However, Eric halted his musical endeavors after college to pursue a career as an attorney.
Eric received his BA in Medieval Studies in 2007 from the University of Tennessee. He then went on to get a Law degree from University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphrey's School of Law in 2011 during which he served as the Editor-in-Chief for the University of Memphis Law Review, Vol 41.
In 2017, after practicing law for several years, Eric felt a creative drive return to him. He decided to turn back to music and explore unconventional production techniques, such as cassette loops, modular synthesis, and other various forms of sampling and synthesis. Eric met Josh McCausland in 2018, and the two started producing music under the name Signal Mountain. Josh's traditional ear paired with Eric's imagination and expansive knowledge of sonic possibilities creates a new idiom of the ambient music genre. The Signal Mountain sound has been described as dreamy, ambient, soothing, and eerie. Together they are set to release Signal Mountain's first album, Familiar Trails, in 2019 as well as score The Land Beyond. This will be the first original score that the two will produce together.
