- Before we started shooting The Sea Hawk (1940), I was trying to hold this powder keg on my shoulder. Errol Flynn came along and said, "Hey, kid. This is how you do it." That was really something.
- The funniest thing is one night about midnight, they were calling me and saying, "Mr. Dixon, we're sending a car around for you." They got me dressed and to the studio and had me sit in a rumble seat in a car. They helped a girl get in beside me -- I had never seen her before -- and asked me to put my arm around her and embrace and kiss her. The cameras rolled, and after about five minutes they yelled "cut." To this day, I never knew the girl's name, and I never knew what picture it was in.
- [Advice to young actors] Study, study, study. And don't go out to Hollywood expecting Mr. Goldwyn waiting with open arms. Play it cool, and never stop studying.
