Bleacher Report has a new type of game to analyze.
Surf on over to the sports-commentary site that has been part of the Warner Bros. Discovery stable since 2012, and you’ll see the usual stuff: a ranking of the best superstar duos in the NBA; speculation over whether the Atlanta Hawks will trade for the Toronto Raptors’ Pascal Siakam; and an aggregation of a story about the Kansas City Chiefs and defensive tackle Chris Jones. Missing is word of the site’s new function for its parent company.
This fall, according to two people familiar with the matter, Warner will bring its sports portfolio — previously the domain of the two cable giants TNT and TBS — to its Max streaming service, under the Bleacher Report name. Warner Bros. Discovery declined to make executives available for comment. Executives from Warner last week hinted at the debut of a new sports offering on Max,...

Toronto Raptors fans think DeMar DeRozan’s daughter may ended their season.
Diar, the Chicago Bulls star and former Raptor’s 9-year-old daughter, was in the audience cheering on her dad, but her high-pitched scream may have helped more than expected.

The game, which the Raptors played at home against the Bulls, was a must-win for the team to advance to the play-offs.
But they lost in gruelling fashion, most notably missing 18 of 36 free throws, the most misses in an NBA elimination game in over 50 years, for a final score of 109-105 for the Bulls.
Soon after the game, viewers began cutting together clips from the game of Diar letting out a very loud scream each time the Raptors were up for a free throw, appearing to psych the players out.
Diar DeRozan deserved her own highlight reel tonight pic.

The Toronto Raptors have issued an apology after a video meant to honour Women’s History Month was hit with backlash.
The video was clearly well-intentioned, with three team members — Scottie Barnes, Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa — attempting to extol the virtues of women, one at a time, as they each answer the question, “Beyoncé said girls run the world. Why do you think that’s true?”

Two of the responses, however, raised eyebrows: Flynn’s statement, “They are the only ones that can procreate,” and Achiuwa’s “They birth everybody.”
The team quickly removed the video and issued an apology.
“We’re an organization that prides itself on doing the right thing when it comes to inclusion and representation, and we made a mistake yesterday,” a Raptors spokesperson said in a statement to the Toronto Star. “Our sincerest apologies to our players,...

Canadian R&b and soul singer Jully Black is being praised online after simply changing one word during her Canadian national anthem performance at the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.
Black took to centre court in Salt Lake City and quickly drew attention when she sang “O Canada! Our home on native land,” in which she paused before emphasizing the word “on,” ultimately changing the original lyrics of “our home and native land.”

The singer-songwriter’s “minor change with major impact/meaning,” as one fan wrote online, certainly didn’t go unnoticed amid an ongoing national conversation about Indigenous rights. Following Black’s performance, the hashtag #ourhomeONnativeland began trending on Twitter.
Sounds like O Canada just got another appropriate update to the national anthem—unofficially officially—by Jully Black.
And it ain't on that 3 Tenors bullshit.

Pascal Siakam is going to the 2023 NBA All-Star game.
After the Toronto Raptors forward was initially snubbed of All-Star status earlier this month — to the chagrin of many in the 6ix — a spot was freed up for Siakam as an All-Star replacement due to Kevin Durant’s injury.
Siakam was named Friday as one of three reserve replacements by NBA commissioner Adam Silver for the Feb. 19 game in Salt Lake City, along with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards and the Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox.

During an amusing NBA Finals-themed edition of “Mean Tweets” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Shaquille O’Neal shut down some fat-shaming with a delightful clap back of his own.
The bit came during a special NBA Finals post-show version of “Kimmel,” guest-hosted by Anthony Anderson. Of course, you know how it works: Celebrities read actual, real-life mean tweets about them, supposedly for the first time, and the laughs come from their reactions.
This edition featured several current and former NBA stars, beginning with Mr. Shaq Diesel himself. You can watch the clip at the top of the page right now, but if you want to read, we’ll transcribe the gags below for you:

The Toronto Raptors had to postpone its National Basketball Assn. Sunday night game against the Chicago Bulls because it couldn’t field the league’s requirement of suiting up eight players.
Several Toronto coaches, including head coach Nick Nurse, and forward Pascal Siakam had to sit out Friday’s game against the Houston Rockets because of the NBA’s health and safety protocols. The league investigated the contacts and determined that too much risk was involved in continuing tonight
The Raptors are next scheduled to host the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday before a game against the Celtics in Boston on Thursday. Both those games are now in jeopardy. Also being watched is Houston’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night, given the proximity of the players from Friday’s game.

Every game in the decades-old NBA 2K series has hit consoles between September and November in time for the leadup to the next NBA season. Makes sense, right? But what happens when, come early September, the pros are still trying to complete the previous campaign because of, oh, I don’t know, a global pandemic that has disrupted just about everything in the world in one way or another? You get NBA 2K21, a game that feels too much like last year’s model.
The game actually makes for a great metaphor for the 2019-20 NBA season. The on-court action is as good as ever, both in the league’s bubble at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida and in 2K21. The virtual basketball is just as smooth as the real thing. Quality simulation gameplay has always been the hallmark of the franchise, and that’s no different this year.
