1986 to 1987 research assistant at the University of Paderborn; 1987 to 1990 research assistant for the Green Party in the Bundestag. 1990 to 1991 project manager at the Institute for Ecological Economic Policy in Berlin; 1991 to 1992 consultant at the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology in Düsseldorf; 1992 to 1998 at the Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy in Wuppertal, where he was responsible for issues of climate policy and sustainable development. Since 1998 lecturer and since 1999 private lecturer at the FU-Berlin.
