- Kelsey Pharr died in Honolulu, Hawaï in 1961. In 1974 Herb Coleman was shot to death in Cannes, France. Lee Gaines died of cancer in 1987 in Helsinki, Finland. Hugh Bryant died of a heart attack while performing at Gaines' funeral in 1987.
- Active for over 50 years, from 1934-87. The group was first formed at Langston University in Langston, OK, in 1934. In 1936 they moved to Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, , where they worked under Frederick Hall and were known as the New Orleans Quintet and later the Frederick Hall Quintet.
- Inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1991.
