As the Jan. 6 hearings continue, women of “The View” think Mike Pence is starting to get a bit too much praise for his actions after the 2020 elections. On Friday, they took particular issue with the idea that the former VP is being seen as a “hero” for refusing to help former President Donald Trump stage a coup.
To kick off the days Hot Topics, moderator Whoopi Goldberg pointed out how much of Thursday’s hearing focused on just how hard Pence was pressured by Trump and his allies to block the results of the 2020 election. “Some are framing him as a hero who rose to the occasion,” Whoopi said. “But I kind of think he was actually doing his job. His job was qualify the election, right? So does this really qualify as heroic?”
And for the most part, the answer of the table was no.

As the Jan. 6 committee hearings continue this week, the hosts of “The View” have a new nickname for Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk — “Lying Butter.” The moniker was bestowed on him Thursday morning, as the women discussed new footage released this week that has thrown fair speculation onto the Georgia representative.
As part of their proceedings this week, the committee released footage from the phone of one man who was part of the insurrection at the Capitol. It was then revealed that that same man was part of a tour of Capitol Hill led by Loudermilk on Jan. 5, leading many to wonder if the Georgia congressman had any role in helping the rioters.
In defending the footage on Fox News, Loudermilk angrily claimed “People take pictures there all the time. Why doesn’t the January 6 committee show the entire video? Because they’re taking pictures all up and down the hallway.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) led a group of a constituents on a tour of the Capitol last Jan. 5, which is a little suspicious given that a day later a mob of former President Trump’s supporters would storm the building in an effort to stop the certification of the Electoral College — something Loudermilk also opposed. The Jan. 6 committee asked Loudermilk about the tour, but on Tuesday the Capitol Police said they found “no evidence” he led a tour of people trying to gather information about the layout of the Capitol a day before the attack.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) led a tour of the U.S. Capitol the day before the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection, Politico reported Thursday, citing a letter from the House Jan. 6 committee to the Republican congressman who voted to overturn the 2020 election results.
“Public reporting and witness accounts indicate some individuals and groups engaged in efforts to gather information about the layout of the U.S. Capitol, as well as the House and Senate office buildings, in advance of January 6, 2021,” committee officials wrote in the letter, saying video footage of the tour “raises questions.

Washington — “This is going to be a shitshow,” said the congressional reporter.
“Yes, it is,” said another.
It was Wednesday morning, and members of the Capitol Hill press corps were assessing what to expect over the next 10 hours leading up to the vote to impeach President Trump. Not much has happened so far. The House of Representatives spent the morning volleying pointless procedural motions (i.e. Democratic Motion To Prevent Gop Protest Vote), which would be followed by an interminable debate that would literally put some of the older lawmakers...

On Wednesday, as it became clear that by day’s end he would become the third president in U.S. history to be impeached, Trump took to Twitter to call upon Americans to “Say a Prayer!” His assumption, of course, was that if one were the praying type, then one would naturally come to his celestial defense in this moment of, as Republican Representative Barry Loudermilk put it, Christ-like persecution—a moment so (supposedly) unjust that “Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than the Democrats have afforded this President.
