- He was a British fashion designer who gained famed during London's Swinging Sixties. He was the go-to tailor for models, movie idols and rock stars, including the Beatles (his suits were worn by Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney on the "Abbey Road" album cover).
- When he was 12, he started working at his uncle's tailoring shop and learned the basics. He left school at age 15 to work with tailors in London's East End. Within a few years, he moved up to cutting and needle work at shops on Savile Row, a world Mecca for bespoke tailoring. He took classes at the Barrett Street Technical College (later part of the London College of Fashion).
