Joshua C Love is known for his philosophically explosive and tenderly enchanting music. He delivers an eruptive amalgam from the likes of David Buckley and Ludwig Göransson to the energizing and uplifting melodies of Harry Gregson-Williams.
Having recently scored the feature film Kung Fu Lion (Kung Fu Leeuw 2023) by Dutch director Froukje Tan in collaboration with Rock Chen (Wandering Earth, Kung Fu Panda 3), his career as a film composer is steadily flourishing. Known for his 2022 composer role for Super Turnt (AppleTV, Prime, Tubi), directed by Mann Robinson, starring Harry Lennix (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman), Torrei Hart, and Jamal Woolard (Notorious), Joshua C Love is a rising force within the composer world. With over 20 years of experience Joshua has composed hundreds of projects, including Exit Point by David Mondin, Home by Jiaxin Zheng, Fensui by Huang Daorong, Lost Soul Aside (Sony PlayStation 5 - 2022), Bravo TV (RealHousewives of Atlanta), HBO MAX, Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival (2022), CBC and more. He is a composer and producer for APM Music (Disney +) and Cool House LLC [Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and Wrath of the Titans (2012)] .
While acquiring a bachelor's degree from Hiram College in 1999, Love studied Philosophy and Psychology in both Berlin and Zimbabwe. In 1999, he enrolled at Cleveland State University's graduate program to study Epistemology. Following the program he traveled to Guatemala and shortly after was contracted to teach in China (Chengdu University of Technology), where he produced lectures on Hegel, Nietzsche and psychology. After 8 months in China, he began a musical project which would be recognized by Beijing's Rolling Stone Magazine as Upcoming Artist (2006) and began a national explosion of artistic expression. One of the first foreign artists to publish audio works in China, touring 3 times a year, Love and his band (Proximity Butterfly), would change the course of musical history in China. After sharing the stage with China's rock-god Cui Jian, the future of the band's fate was sealed.
Joshua went on to release 5 LPs, 2 EPs and singles across China over the next decade with Modern Sky (Beijing), Maybe Mars (Beijing) and CaoTai Music (Chengdu/Beijing), Love performed live on CCTV-9, CCTV-1, Sichuan Television (SCTV) and in 2017 was featured on QQ's Tencent Live to over 90 Million viewers. Originally, Love was the captain of the psychedelic rock trio, Proximity Butterfly, propelling their albums (Reprieve and Medusae) into the Top 25 Albums of China in 2011, 2014 and 2015. He recorded Medusae with Manny Nieto (The Mars Volta, The Breeders).
After moving his studio from Chengdu to Toronto in 2017, Joshua has focused primarily on composing for film and television.
He now lives in Cleveland with his wife and three children, loves doing yoga and privately coaching his sons in basketball.
